The door swung open and I nearly fainted.  Cade was standing there in a black v-neck with fitted jeans and his hair was slightly wet and messy.  He smelled like he had just taken a shower.  I noticed that both his eyes were brown again though.  ‘That’s a relief.’ I thought to myself.  If I saw his eyes as they were at that moment, there would have been very little holding me back from jumping on him.

“Hey! You came!” He smiled brilliantly.

I couldn’t even smile I was so stunned.  “Um…hi.”

“Come in.  Sorry everything is a little disorganized right now.”

I walked in behind him and took everything in.  There was clean tan carpet with light brown furniture.   There was a futon in the middle of the living room facing a decent sized TV and in between them was a nice glass coffee table with some magazines and papers spread across it.  There was a bookshelf with hundreds of books along the wall and the whole living room was only split from the kitchen by a counter with two chairs on the outside.  The kitchen was nice and basic and then there was a short hallway with two doors.  One I assumed to be the bathroom and the other his bedroom.  Overall he had a really clean place and what was so detrimental to me was everything smelled like him.

“Here go ahead and sit.  Would you like something to drink?”

“Um…water is fine.”

“Alright, ice?”

“Sure.”  I was pretty sure you could cut the awkwardness in the air with a knife.

He got my water and sat down next to me.

He rubbed the back of his neck nervously, “So…um…how was your date today?”

“It was good.  We had a lot of fun.  He’s really creative.” I smiled.

“Yeah, he’s quite the romantic.  What’d you do?”

“Well first we went to a bakery and got my favorite bread for an appetizer, then rode a tandem bike to the outlets and he bought me a really cute hat from the thrift store, and then we rode the bike to the park and had a picnic, and then…” I paused for a second because the memory floated back into my head, “We rolled down the hill, and then lastly we went to a little yogurt shop.” I grinned.

“You rolled down the hill?” He chuckled, “So you still like doing that?”

I blushed a little, “Well, I honestly haven’t since you left.”

“Oh.”

And thus the awkwardness seeped back in.

“So…you were going to tell me what happened in those five years?” I asked, getting straight to the point.
