There was one thing I learnt about Mimi, she was always on her own. She sat alone in classes and alone in the cafeteria.

I noticed that on my first day.

I may have been human for just a few days, but I knew humans weren't solitary creatures...

I got my tray of food and walked over to her table not bothering to ask if I could sit there. Dropping the peach plastic tray on it, I sat down opposite Mimi, automatically earning a glare from her.

"Before you say something, there's no other place to sit", I said, my hands sweeping over the already full cafeteria, all the tables were occupied, I wasn't about to go and sit with total strangers, and she looked like she needed the company.

"Fine, you can sit here today, just try to come earlier tomorrow so you can get a table to yourself.", she replied, not even looking up at me.

"Ok... why are you sitting alone?", I hesitantly asked.

"Just because."

I was about to open my mouth and say something when someone dropped a tray right next to me. I looked up, straight into virescent eyes.

"Hi, I thought I could sit here", Zach said, standing awkwardly by the side.

"Oh um, sure.", I replied, and then gestured towards Mimi as he sat next to me, "This is..."

"Mimi", he said, cutting me off, "You two know each other?"

His question caught me off guard and I didn't know how to answer coz Mimi had made it clear she didn't want to have anything to do with me.

"Yes, we do", she answered for me, but not elaborating further.

"Oh... good then", he made as if he was going to add something more but changed his mind and picked up a pear, and bit into it chewing slowly.

"You should eat.", he said, pointing at my tray, "The pudding tastes horrible when it's cold."

"Oh, um, thanks.", I smiled gratefully at him as I dug in.

"No problem, Zach at your service. Consider it as me being sorry for running into you.", he laughed as he said that, and I found myself smiling, he had a really nice laugh.

"So...did you guys meet here at school? Although I'd be really surprised if you said yes, coz Mimi's not noted for making friends", he teased.

"Um, no. We're cousins", I replied, letting the foreign word escape from my lips and feeling kind of bad for lying to him.

"Oh... I see", he said shortly.

And then that was it, he let it drop and I instantly felt relieved.

I was pretty sure Mimi and Zach weren't friends, in fact I was pretty sure Mimi had no friends at this school, but I could tell that Zach and her had...history.

Zach and I talked through out lunch break, him asking occasional questions about where I was from, and me answering as vaguely as I could. Thankfully I'd checked out UAE on the internet- I thought google was really cool- and so I was able to answer his questions.

"What?! You mean you can't speak Arabic and you've lived there all your life?!", he asked, disbelief colouring his tone.

I laughed a bit nervously, trying to figure out what to say when Mimi cut in, "She went to an international, so all her classes were in English, plus most of her friends were international students, and a lot of people in UAE speak Arabic".

I was really grateful to be with her then, who knows what I would have said if I was alone with him. I didn't even know what an international school was.

"Oh, I guess that makes sense.", he said, "It's a shame though, I mean, I would kill for such an opportunity. I'm crazy about languages".

The human race never failed to amaze me. Before the day started, I actually thought English was the only language spoken in the world, now I'm finding out there's not one or two languages even, there's more...

I couldn't helping thinking though, if I can speak English when I couldn't before, when I was star, shouldn't I be able to speak other languages too...

"Stella. Hello! Earth calling Stella!", I was snapped out of my thoughts and almost startled by a grinning Zach, peering into my eyes, his green ones twinkling with mischief, "Aha! Finally! You kind of zoned out there. Lunch break's over. You have gym class yeah? I have that class now too, so we should get going so we'd be able to change clothes before class starts".

I grabbed my empty tray and stood up, wincing a little, the wooden chairs were definitely a minus to the otherwise okay cafeteria.

"Sure, I'll just dump these in the bin", I said, walking over to the grey bin about four feet away from our table. I dumped the disposable plate and rubbish, and headed back to the table where Zach was standing, waiting for me, and Mimi was still sitting.

"It was nice um...talking to you again Mimi.", Zach said, as he made to leave.

"Yeah sure.", she replied, still sitting at the spot.

Zach and I walked out of the cafeteria, passing by a table of burly looking guys who called out to him as we passed. He called back to them, not stopping by at their table, which was fine by me.

Hi!! ^_^

So yeah, that's the latest update. I'm really sorry it's short, I promised I'd update soon but that's all I've got now. So, let's just call it a filler chapter. At least I kept my word yeah?

So, what do you think about Zach and Mimi knowing each other? Maybe they just know each other because they're in the same school though, maybe :D

It'll soon get interesting though, it IS a paranormal story, so please be patient with me.

Since no one took the song challenge for the last chapter, I'm gonna skip today's dedication. Spot's still open though, so please feel free to add a comment with a song :)

And...

Today's song is, Team by Lorde...

XOXO- Zara
