Prologue

I stared at his lifeless body with no emotion nor remorse, my urges had taken his youthful life—his life that could easily be lived for another seventy years and I took it away selfishly. Brother was right, I was selfish—we weren’t humans and we will never be the same as we were as humans. It was foolish of me to dream of a mortal life as it was for obtaining love.

Ah, love.

It was sweet while it lasted but nevertheless it was deadly. Look at the boy, he loved me and now he’s dead. I smiled when recalling the times we spent together, some bad but mostly good. He didn’t know what I was and I didn’t bother telling him, I reassured myself that everything I’m doing with the boy was temporary, nothing lasts forever. Even immortals could be killed.

Did I meant for him to die?

No, I didn’t want him to die so quickly. He was a toy I could play with when I’m bored, my precious toy. But nature took its tide, I was the predator and he was the vulnerable prey, right when I needed a feed he was conveniently there. This is how it’s supposed to be. I’m a heartless beast, can’t you see?
