Aside from reviewers, one of the most frequently searched things on Wattpad is cover makers. The aesthetics of a book are tremendously important, from covers to banners to cute little dividers and collages.

They know that while you can't judge a book by its cover, it does play a huge role in whether or not others choose a book.

The most important part of being a Revenant is loving what you do and seeing it as an opportunity to craft your skills. After all, being asked to create stickers for contests or banners for a new shop may not be the most exciting jobs that ever come your way. Some level of love for the process is a prerequisite.

Don't sell yourself short

Don't sell yourself short. You'll be doing a lot of work, so if you want something, don't be afraid to ask.

Things that seem obvious aren't always entirely clear, so asking for genuine comments means you'll have to live with "Nice!" and "Good work!"

Instead, say, "Read a chapter of my book and leave two constructive comments, pointing out both positive and negative aspects of what you've read." One of the main reasons people end up being disappointed is because they didn't make expectations clear from the start.

Do not start designing until payment has been received.

There is sometimes a bit of a disconnect between those who express things through written language and those who express things visually.

Most disputes between clients and artists happen not because of any lack of talent, but lack of communication. Clients often don't know exactly what they want, and some artists wander off into their own vision and ideas, forgetting they're designing for someone.

It will save yourself a lot of time, effort, and revision if you make sure they fill out the form fully and thoroughly, and provide plenty of ideas. Some will have a very specific idea of what they want, but not know how to express "That's a manipulated cover with a filter I'm picturing." Others will just know they want pink, or black, or a unicorn on the cover. Some will just speak to you in terms of genre.

Let your client know "I write Horror books." is not enough information. Ask them about ideas of images of objects, places, people. You'd be amazed how many people will forget to express visual details. Your client might say, "I want a beautiful woman and a handsome Prince on the cover." That's easy enough. You submit your idea, and the client says, "I like it, but my story specifically says she has blonde hair."

Even if your client has no clue, the more details you can get about things their book visually describes, the better. So be sure the form tells you all you need to know.

Padding your resume to look good is only going to keep you up all night trying to learn how to do something you don't want to do. If you're a novice to Photoshop, have never done animation, can't illustrate to save your life, or have no clue why "collage art" goes in a story--it's better to let us and your client know your limitations.

At the same time, don't be afraid of challenges that test your skills. Just because you've never done it before doesn't mean you can't. There's nothing wrong with saying "I'll try."

We expect one completed project per week for Revenants if people are on their queue.

Unless you're on hiatus or have an empty queue, we expect you to complete one finished project for a client per week. If there are extenuating circumstances that keep this from being possible, please speak to us about it so we can try to help speed things up.

Each week, please PM the Necro team on your assigned day to let us know what/who is in your queue, if you are having difficulties with either the work or the client, and if you're available to new clients or your queue is closed. We don't want turnaround times to be excessively long.
