Where My Demons Hide

Prompt: Something involving Castiel, Gabriel, and the Angel Tablet

Two beings, separated by a silver table, scrutinized one another.  The overhead light flickered a yellow beam, casting shadows on the manlike figures.  The intensity between them grew with each passing second; heightening the importance of their meeting even more.  However, they both refused to be the first one to speak.  It wasn’t out of stubbornness one of them didn’t initiate, but more from the matter that even though they were brothers, they were now pitted against one another to protect one of Heaven’s most sacred possessions: the Angel Tablet.

On the right of the table was the angel, Castiel.  A dark haired renegade who had once sworn his allegiance to Heaven, but, after rescuing a human by the name of Dean Winchester, he decided to turn away from his celestial teachings and begin living by his own choices and consequences.  In doing so, Castiel lost Heaven’s trust and had been banished from ever returning.

On the left of the table was the angel, Gabriel.  A fair-haired demi-god with traits speckled with mischief, fables, and a gluttonous case for confections.  Unlike Castiel, Gabriel was a fan of making simple missions difficult, which was why he was so bent on taking the Angel Tablet from Castiel.  Castiel had attained the table with the help of Dean and, after an intense confrontation between Dean and the higher-ranked angel, Naomi, Castiel ended up with the tablet in his possession.

After the groaning silence passed, Castiel spoke in his deep, flat voice.  “This meeting was never set up for you to walk away with The Tablet.”  Castiel flattened his palms on the table and leaned forward, leveling his eyes with his “carefree” sibling.  “I am only here to warn you to stay away from me.”

Gabriel puckered his lips and chuckled.  “You could have spray painted the hate mail for me, little brother, instead of hauling me out of my La-Z-Boy chair.  Seriously, you’re threatening me?  An archangel that can magic erase your toosh to—I don’t know, where would you like to be?  Besides in Dean’s manly arms.”

Castiel shot two blue eyes at Gabriel.  He clenched his jaw and curled his fists.

Noticing the dramatic change of expression in Castiel’s face, Gabriel’s brow scrunched and he made a hollow whistle.  “Ooh, didn’t mean to ruffle your feathers on that one.”

“The bond we share is deeper than any human affection—perhaps an unexplainable companionship that has, frankly, surpassed the brotherly connection we have.”

Gabriel arched an eyebrow and nodded his head, hiding the obvious hurt.   Pretending not to be interested in Castiel’s explanation, Gabriel sung lightheartedly, “Well, can’t imagine why you choose a mere mortal over moi!  Funny, because—,” Gabriel paused to cross his arms, “if you are just so close to the man downstairs, then why do you hide The Tablet from him?  Does his pillow talk annoy you?”

“Don’t use expressions I don’t understand.  But, no, I only keep The Tablet to protect Dean.  He’ll understand in time.”

“How thoughtful of you,” Gabriel spat through a childish pout.  “But, if it’s that simple, then, I’ll make it simple, too.  I play fair.”

Castiel squared his shoulders and stared at his brother.  “I feel you have a proposition.”

“I do!  Great job at guessing.  But here’s the thing—I can’t stay away from you.  But I can stay away from the Winchesters.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, you and I are going to have a lil’ tea party!”  Gabriel clapped his hands together and then rubbed them together excitedly.  “Don’t be a party pooper, you’ll understand in time.  And you’ll definitely know who has rightful ownership over God’s scribbles.”  With that, Gabriel gave Castiel a wink, a snap of the fingers, and then vanished.
