Reckless Abandon -Part Two

*Previously*

Luke went back down to talk to his mum, who was waiting for him, in the kitchen.

She was a little confused but knew one thing for sure.

"Is that Michael?"

The silence that followed was deafening.

Luke's mum was looking at him and giving him his look that only mum's knew how to do.

Luke knew that something like this was going to happen. But really, so what if he was friends with Michael again, they were best friends.

...They were best friends and then Michael cut him off that summer.

Luke wasn't sure if he was angry that he and Michael stopped being friends. It was true that Michael cut him off but Luke never made any effort to talk to him again, seeing as he was friends with Calum.

It sort of makes him want to change his life. He wonders of he did stay friends with Michael throughout the beginning of high school, would have they ended up there?

Luke was quite aware that Michael was alone in his room and his mum was staring at him quite intensely, he wasn't sure which was worse.

"Is that Michael?"

Liz' words were stressed and her throat was closing up. Michael had been such a prominent part of her life, and to see him now was unbearable.

Michael's skin was a pasty white colour, paler than should be normal and around his eyes, it was like they were drowning in a sea of black ink. His hair had changed but he still looked like 'little Mikey'.

Luke watched him mum stare at him for what it felt like hours, but then saw he come into reality. She was quick but Luke was quicker.

"What are you doing?" Luke whispered harshly as he held his mum from charging towards his room. "Are you serious, just let him sleep!"

Liz was shocked. Her son was telling her not to see the boy which she used to consider her own.

Her eyes kept flickering to Luke and down the hallway.

"How did you end up talking in the first place?"

Luke laughed. He mum was seriously overreacting.

"He said he liked my Cobain shirt," Luke spat sarcastically, "How do you think?"

The sarcasm that dripped from his words was venomous. Luke knew that maybe he went a little too far, but he was angry and would deal with the aftermath some other time.

"Look, I'm sorry Mum, okay", Luke said while putting his hands up in defence, " I can't do this right now. "

Luke kept avoiding his mum's gaze because his eyes were tearing up.

"He's Michael, you know, I love him...I'll always love him." He said it so brokenly and more tears continued to run down the boys face.

He hadn't cried so hard since Michael and he were put into different classes.

His mum wrapped her arms around her son and started to soothe him, tonight had been so eventful she had decided to go with the flow.

She thought back to the time when her little boy was starting primary school and how he had come home talking about his knew friend. She remembers how happy he was and how simple life was back then. She remembers what they said:
