Intermission (A digression)

Hi all;

Well, it is a long weekend in these parts, and  it looks like I'll be spending several days at my family's summer place - woods! meadow! a rambling Victorian house (it has a back staircase and stained glass in the front parlour)! waterfront (Bay of Quinte)!  And . . . (wait for it)  . . . No internet access.

As such, there may be a longer break between updates here than I would usually like.

I've come up with something for you to amuse yourselves with in the meantime. I've run into more than one person who has assigned songs to their characters (or, more often, someone else's characters, since this seems to be particularly popular for fan fiction), and it looked like fun. So, I've tried my hand at doing the same.

Cheesy? Yup. But I had a lot of fun doing it.

Are these the only or even the best songs to suit these characters? Absolutely not.

Has enough of the story been posted yet for it to be clear why these songs are appropriate? Not in all cases, no. And besides, half of the songs were chosen for the general feeling of the melody, so it'll never be *completely* obvious why some of them were picked.

Since you can only do one "external link" or "Youtube video", and since you can't copy-and-paste out of a story, I'll add the youtube links as comments below, for your clicking pleasure. (On the topic of external links, has anyone noticed the ones on the story chapters? I thought it would be a sneaky, hidden-in-plain-sight way to get in some extra content, but maybe it's _too_ sneaky, since nobody seems to have noticed any of them! Oh well, most of them aren't perfect anyhow :) )

Songs are presented in order of character appearance:

Marcus: The march/main theme/Peter's leitmotif/whatever you want to call it from Sergei Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" - http://youtu.be/ctsWdUaHsHM

The baby: The "Coro a bocca chiusa" (the humming chorus) from Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" - http://youtu.be/0f1k14GQmNE

Tsuga: George and Ira Gershwin's "But Not for Me" -  http://youtu.be/FnfUN6bBAg4

Salix: "The Sun whose Rays are All Ablaze" from Gilbert and Sullivan's "Mikado" - http://youtu.be/l5EAIcGitAM

Mulberry: Yoko Kanno's "Green Bird" (from Ep 5 of "Cowboy Bebop" for those keeping track) - http://youtu.be/XJjnbhSTuqQ

Vitus: Simon and Garfunkel's "59th Street Bridge Song" - http://youtu.be/K-8RljXFSzI

Cinnamon: Akeboshi's "Wind" (used as one of the closing themes for "Naruto". Hmm, two anime examples in one list - I must be more into anime than I thought . . . If I ever do this again, it'll probably be all songs from Fallout 3, you wait and see) - http://youtu.be/eQFMQZ3K8Cc

Petro: "Walk Away", Franz Ferdinand - http://youtu.be/Z1qPnSZDrAQ

Now, go argue amongst yourselves about how much my musical tastes stink, and let me know what you would have picked instead.  :)
