When Keaton finally woke up Lucy was no where near him, neither was Collin. They left him. Keaton wanted to be mad but he knew he shouldn't be. He was the one that fell asleep. After stretching he got up and walked to the kitchen. When he got there he was shocked. Lucy was baking and Collin was at HIS place at the counter. Ok maybe Keaton was being a little possesive but Lucy never let anyone sit there. They were getting older, he needed to give her some space. That would be hard though.

"Keats! you are up. I'm making some cookies. You can take some to your brother and all your friends. Oh and did you sleep nicely? I knew that you had to be tired and Collin was being too loud so i brought him up here."

"oh um thanks. And i did sleep well. You could have woken me up."

"Naw. You looked too peaceful. Didn't want to ruin that."

Keaton just nodded his head. He leaned up against the wall because there was only one stool at the counter. Their family always moved them to different rooms. That's why Keaton always took the one stool that always seemed to be at the counter. Everyone knew it was his seat, except Collin. Lucy must have realised why Keaton wasn't sitting at the counter in front of her.

"Oh my goodness. collin go get another stool."

"what? why me? Keaton is a big boy."

"that is his chair."

"i don't see his name on it."

"Look on the underside of the seat part. it's there."

Keaton couldn't help but smile when Lucy remembered that little detail. It was last year when all the boys were over and Lucy had told Wes not to sit on the stool. Everyone questioned why and Lucy said that it belonged to Keaton. They kept saying it didn't have his name on it so Lucy ran and got a sharpee and wrote in big letters 'Property of Keaton Stromberg'. The boys were shocked but Keaton was happy. And he was still happy that she remembered that.

"He put his name on your stool?"

"No. I put his name on the stool. He always sits there. It's like his desinated place."

"That's just weird. But I'll go get a different one."

"Thanks Collin!"

After Collin left the room keaton sat on the stool.

"You really didn't have to do that."

"Oh but I did. Just becuase you were gone didn't mean i am ever letting someone take your place. And your face was just too sad."

"I would have managed. And that was mean. I could have gotten another stool."

"Yeah but all the stools were in here this morning.I think Caleb and the girls took them."

"Oh ok then."

"Yeah. So I made chocolate chip cookies. Any special requests?"

"You didn't make m&m cookies?"

"Ok ok i did. i did half chocolate chip and half m&m. I was gonna surprise you."

"you know that doesn't work well for you."

"I have been practising."

"on the wrong people."

"Shut up Keats."

"Make me."

Lucy walked over to keaton and he was getting a little confused and opened his mouth when she put a wad of cookie dough in his mouth.

"see i can surprise you!"

"that doesn't count."

'it does though Keats. It does."

"Whatever you say Luce."

Lucy humphed and crossed her arms in front of her chest. Keaton couldn't help but laugh at her. She looked so pitiful and just adorable. Keaton was getting frustrated with his thoughts about his best friend. He needed to clear his mind, which he couldn't do while he was near her. He couldn't just leave her though, or he didn't want to. And he didn't like this Collin guy at all, but it wasn't really Keaton's place to judge.

"One day Keats, One day. Just you wait. I will surprise you."

Just then Collin walked back into the kitchen with a stool in his hand.

"oh you two talking about how horrible Lucy is at surprises?"

"Uh yeah..."

Lucy noticed that Keaton was acting weird. SHe needed to talk to him alone, but her cousin was just being too much of a pest. She had to come up with an idea.

"Hey Collin, can you check on Caleb and the girls? I haven't heard them lately."

"Oh they went to the park with your mom."

"Oh, when did this happen?"

"Like twenty minutes ago."

"hmmm."

That obviously didn't work for her. She had to think harder. As Lucy was coming up with an idea Keaton's phone went off.

"Hey Luce, I have to head back to my place. See ya tomorrow?"

"Yeah. Surfing?"

"Surfing."

"Hey Lulu, can i come with you two?"

Neither Keaton or Lucy wanted him to come, but they didn't want to hurt his feelings. Well Keaton didn't want to hurt Lucy's feelings for not liking this new guy.

"Sure, I don't see why not. Keaton, you mind? Maybe the other guys want to go too?"

"Perfect. See ya then. Bye Luce."

Keaton walked to the other side of the counter and gave her a quick hug and a kiss on her forehead. Then he internally kicked himself for doing that in front of Collin. Lucy didn't mind though, a small tint of rosy pink adorned her cheeks. She let her hair fall into her face to hide it.

"Bye Keats. Text me the details when you get home."

"of course. Bye Collin."

"Bye dude."

That was one awkward day. Keaton couldn't wait to lay in his own bed. Lucy couldn't wait to have her friend all to herself, but that would have to wait for quite some time.
