My Friend

A world engulfed in darkness' gaze,
One thrust in chaos and set ablaze,
I sank in sorrows that had no end,
But then you arrived to be my friend.

You quelled the turmoil, eased my pain,
Dispelled my demons, kept me sane,
My confidante you then became,
To see me smile you made your aim.

I latched on to sorrow selfishly,
Yet you embraced me selflessly,
I felt adrift and without a home,
You smiled and said you're not alone.

I never say what I always know,
What I've always felt but never show,
Although of friends, I have but few,
I'm really glad one of them is you.
