Chapter 24

Caleb's POV

"Welcome! Welcome! Oh Blake. It's so good to see you again"

I looked at the man in a doctor's jacket, about 45 years old. He had a slight stubble and had blonde hair. He wore a huge smile on his face as he pulled Blake into a warm hug.

I didn't know doctors were that close with their clients. 

Not that I would know anyway since I haven't been to a doctor in years. I'm never sick, and when I am, it's normally just a cough or a slight fever. All I need is to lie in bed for a day and drink soup and I'll be all good the next day.

I may have broken some bones and had some injuries, but for that, I'd be sent to the hospital and  the doctor never ever really came and talked to me. He just talked to Jasmine, my head maid who was my temporary guardian whenever my parents weren't here. I was mostly just taken care by the nurses.

"Thanks Liam. It's good to see you too" Blake replied sweetly.

First name basis I see....

"Here. Here. Have a seat" He pointed at the chairs by the door.

I followed Blake and sat beside her.

"So how are you doing?" Liam asked.

"I'm good. The rents are back" Blake shrugged casually.

Her parents were back? She just told me a few days ago that they weren't coming back for the summer. 

"Really? Well maybe I should pop by for a visit. I haven't seen them for quite a while. Your father and I should have lots of catching up to do"

Her father? They were family friends?

"Uh... Maybe. Me and them aren't exactly on good terms right now. Maybe in a few weeks"

What? When did this happen?

"Oh. What happened this time?" 

Blake shrugged, "Oh you know. The usual. Pretending to care. But this time, it got further than ever before"

"Aw that sucks. You should really give your dad a bit of credit though. He works very hard to support you and the rest of your family. He doesn't like being thousands of miles away from his children but it's what he has to do"

"Bullshit" Blake muttered.

"Come on Blake. You and I both know he does. I've known him for more than 25 years now. We went to highschool together. Don't you think I know him well enough to know that he cares and loves his children?"

Her dad and this dude went to high school together?

"Whatever. Can we just get on with this appointment? 10 minutes already passed" Blake said.

"Oh of course"

And only then, did he realize that I had been in the room for the past, as Blake said, 10 minutes.

"Oh hello there! I'm Dr. Marc. But you can call me Liam. You must be the father"

Well no beating around the bush there....

"Yeah. I'm Caleb. It's nice to meet you... er... Liam"

He nodded and shook my hand firmly.

"So all we're gonna do today is talk. About what's gonna be expected, what might happen, the safety issues, all of that stuff"

"Cool" Was all I said.

He sat down on a chair and rolled towards us.

He pulled out a file and looked up at us.
