My grandmother Raquel, a wonderful and virtuous woman,
A role model for anyone in my family, I came to meet her when I was quite young.
She attended my baptism, a ceremony that was recorded not only in my memory,
But in my heart.
She lived in Mexico along with most of mother’s relatives.
She had a beautiful house, one that was always filled with laughter, warmness,
And kindness. But soon all of that would be gone.
October 5th ten years ago she disappeared from life.
A vital person in my life was no longer with me,
I regret every moment I did not take to see her.
If it meant starting school late, or just plain never going
I would have chosen that life even if it meant never learning to spell my name,
As long as I spent every precious second with her.
A tragedy for me, a horrible moment
A moment that will affect me for the rest of my life.
Everything went downhill for me.
I knew that I would never be the same, the moment I walked through that door
And saw her lying still. I could not understand it,
But I was feeling alone, abandoned and completely filled with grief.
This is the ballad of a wonderful grandmother, one that I will not see for a long time.
Author’s Note: This is only the first of series of poems that I have written for my English class in my senior year. Each poem has its own subject but I hope you enjoy reading my poems as much as I enjoyed writing them. :D Read~Comment~Vote
