Bitter Like Coffee

Coffee shop tables made for two

I'm drinking alone,

one seat for me, another empty for you.

I'll take it black, stale ,and bitter

It's warm inside but I can taste the cold in winter.

My feelings swirl in a deep round coffee cup

And still, as hard as I try, the feelings are rough.

Difficult to understand

Even harder to grasp

You can't count on anyone,

Not even the shadow you cast.

Eventually it will leave you in the dark

Not thinking twice, breaking your heart.

Without a goodbye it will disappear

Only to turn up again in a year

I cling to the memories, pictures, and songs

How could something so right turn out so wrong.

Pour me another cup, brew the next pot

They say love is sweet, well truth is its not.

Its cold where I am, its begining to snow

I'm falling apart and I'm letting go

The world is moving so fast

It's passing me in streaks of grey.

People enter my life

but no one's guaranteed to stay.

Too many tragedies I have witnessed

Too many pains I have felt,

Like the snowflake on your finger

in moments I will melt.

The world keeps going

although I wish for it to halt

The only stable thing that's there

is the pavement and asphalt
