A/N - So, quick explanation - this is a filler of sorts, which is why it's so short. The story has barely started, and a couple things need to happen before the real story begins ;)

"Dakan Archer."

My name was called.

I followed the previous person up the walkway to the podium, where the principal was waiting with our diplomas.

This was it. High school was over in 10 steps ... 9 steps ... 8 ...

I accepted the leather-bound paper and shook hands with the principal as he congratulated me.

I was done. Free.

Walking back to my seat, near the center of the huge grassy field, I searched across the rows of chairs to find Sy near the end of the waiting line of graduates-to-be, with the rest of the T's, since we were in alphabetical order. She was grinning at me and clapping, so I sent her a tiny wave back.

More names were called ... Eric and Lexia's ... Devon's ... Jason's ...

Finally,

"Syrena Thrace."

I stood and cheered for her as she made her way to the front and accepted her diploma, then came to sit by me and the rest of us - we didn't have to sit in alphabetical order, thankfully, after we had been given our diplomas.

The last names were called, the valedictorian - a different girl from our classes - made her speech, the principal made a speech, and then it was over. Cheers rang out, and hundreds of caps were launched into the sky, and rained back down on us, the graduates.

We graduated.

Not much more to say, I guess.

We were free for now - until college, anyway.

The ceremony was outside, in a park that was near school, and the sun was shining - not a cloud in sight.

It was just amazing seeing Kan, then Lexia and her brother, then Devon and Kan's other friend, Jason, walk the aisle one by one until they had all been liberated by their piece of leather-bound paper. Also, I was really glad that Kan and I were together for this milestone, since we missed a lot of others.

Then my name was called out.

Walking toward the podium felt almost surreal, like it was a hallucination brought on by too much studying and caffeine. It was real, though, and the cheers for each of the graduates, and me, as we accepted our diplomas, kept me grounded, and I knew everything was real.

We stayed around a little longer, just talking, agreeing to stay in touch over the summer as much as possible, and discussing college one final time. Each of us had already applied and been accepted to our first or second choices. Jason, Eric, and Lexia were leaving the state, Devon was staying close, and Syrena and I had both been accepted to the same college, so we were staying local also. I wanted to study electrical engineering in university, since I was interested in computers and technology and had already taken some classes in high school, and Sy wanted to study education to become a teacher.

After a while, though, we had to leave.

Since Menara and Syrena came with us, we rode together on the way home. Sy and I were squashed into the backseat in our gowns with our mortarboard hats wedged awkwardly in front of us, but we were too busy laughing over all the things we remember from all those years ago and from these last few months, for it to bother us.

School was over until next fall.

Summer was here.

I could tell it would be an eventful one, now that Sy and I were together again.

...just wait.

A/N (yep, another one lol)

Hey guys! 😁💖

I'm so sorry for the long wait and anticlimactic chapter. More will happen soon, promise. The story's just starting, and I have a lot planned - school had to finish first, though. For them and for me.

I was trying to finish all of my classes, so I hardly had any time to write, and writer's block on top of that is even worse for the update frequency.

Hopefully you liked the chapter, and are excited for more to happen, because it's going to. Happen, I mean. It's in the process of forming in my brain and being translated to digital words.

I love comments and I read every single one, so feel free to type away 😝
