I lay in bed watching Sam’s body rise and fall to the rhythm of her breathing, and then I started watching Lily. My god did she look ill. Lily’s skin was a sickly white, almost the colour of snow. Just then her whole body stopped moving, she stopped breathing. I got out of bed and practically ran to her. “Lily? Lily, wake up!” I felt a tear coming to my eye “LILY!” I sobbed. I heard footsteps and a click. The room was flooded with light. I felt an arm snake around my shoulders, usually I hated physical contact, but I was beyond the point of caring. “Emma, we did our best, but it was her time to go. Just think, Lily’s in a better place now.” Sam reassured me. I was knelt there, crying into Sam’s shoulder.
In the morning I had to tell Mum and Dad, who then phoned Lily’s parents. I called all our old friends, just to let them know that Lily Lewis had died on Prom Night.
