I saw the cracks in your lips

as you were leaning in to kiss

my cheek

You were standing in the middle of the

room with eyes searching the walls

for a place to put your masterpiece

and I was standing in the doorframe,

watching you with colouring eyes

You were my canvas,

my masterpiece

but even then it was not enough

There were no words to describe you,

yet there was a thousand words

There was no possible way of picturing you

because there was always something different about you,

maybe because your eyes seemed to shift colours

or maybe because you were shifting moods

like you shed skin

Even if you were painted

by someone as professional

as yourself,

it would never be right

Your beauty couldn't be put into

a frame or a picture -

it was something you lived to

see and something you

longed to see

You were my painting, but

if you were a painting

then everything was in that painting -

then the whole universe only existed

in that painting -

beause your beauty never failed

to take my breath away

and your eyes never seemed to

stop glowing now that

we were painted in our happy

days
