The Senses

The eyes are to see:

A ribbon of light,

A darkened cave,

A windswept tree,

A peculiar night,

An open grave,

An empty alley,

All are things

The eyes can see.

The ears are to hear:

A blackbird’s caw,

A splatter of rain

A wild north wind,

A creaky see-saw,

A sound of pain,

A whistling whirlwind,

All are things

Ears listen for.

The nose is to smell:

Crisp bacon fry,

A spice-cake hot,

A cherry pie,

Steak and kidney pie,

A mouth-watering stump pot,

A scrumptious potpie,

All are things

A nose is for.

The tongue is to taste:

Water that’s cold,

Hot buttered bread,

Sausage fried,

A freezy ice-cold,

Warm shortbread,

Peaches dried,

All are things

 The tongue can taste.

The Senses are to use,

And not to abuse.
