As I walk through the hallways, trying to find my classroom, ‘Hey! Gino! Gino!’ a girl’s voice is trying to catch my attention. I almost said ‘yeah?’ Good thing I remembered that I’m playing deaf. My heart is popping out of nervousness because this is my first time to do this in my whole life and the fact that I should know how to do sign languages because I’m deaf slipped off my mind. ‘Oh no! I don’t wanna get caught on the first day of my mission’, I said to myself as I run my hand through my hair trying to act normally.

The girl chased me and as much as I wanted to run, I can’t. She grabbed my arms and said ‘Gino! Are you trying to ignore your cousin now?’ My eyes got wider that my eye balls almost pop out. ‘So what’s up? Are you here to get some girls again?’ she said noisily. I covered her mouth and brought her to the vacant room beside the beside the comfort room.

‘What?! Why don’t you speak? Aisssh!’, she shouted.

‘okay ssshhh. Shhh! I’ll tell you everything okay? Just be quiet.’ I said in a lower tone as I explore the area with my eyes, making sure that nobody’s there aside from us.

‘fine’ she replied calmly.

I told her everything including the reason why I’m here, my plans and everything. ‘Yes! Now I have a partner-in-crime.’ I said to myself.

My cousin is specializing in Special Education so she taught me sign languages. But darn! It’s too hard to learn. I feel stupid doing it.

My first week in that school has already passed. But I did not even noticed because I was busy courting the most decent-looking girls in the campus. Unfortunately, none of them liked me. If I wasn’t deaf, these girls would be in my room right now, naked.

‘How’s your week darling?’, my cousin Diana asked me using sign language even though she knows that I’m not really deaf so no one would notice.

I replied in the same manner. ‘Not good. I quit. I already gave my letter to our dean telling that I’m dropping out’, I said.

‘Aww that’s too bad. Well, that’s your choice.’ She replied.

After I said good bye to my cousin, I went to our school’s garden to breathe some fresh air. I sat on a bench and rested my back for a minute. Ahh… it feels so good. I closed my eyes and fell asleep. But then suddenly, a girl stuck an earphone in my left ear, like she wants me to hear the music she’s listening to.

I looked at her smiling face, she has a shoulder-length black hair, a pair of brown eyes and a pink lips. Pretty simple, nothing special.

‘I composed that song! What do you think?’ she asked me proudly as she removes the earphone that she stuck in my left ear.

‘I can’t hear you. I’m deaf.’ I said through sign language.

Her face turned red. Maybe she’s quite embarrassed. She pats my shoulders while saying ‘it’s okay’ with a fake smile. I know she feels sorry for my condition.

‘I’ll just print out the lyrics and show it to you tomorrow, okay? Same time same place?’ she said again with a smile, but this time it’s a real smile. After that, she left.

This is the first time that somebody actually talked to me. I grabbed my backpack and ran as fast as I can to the dean’s office.

‘What brings you here Mister Elizalde?’ our dean welcomed me using sign language.

‘I’m here to take back my letter. I don’t want to drop out Ma’am.’ I said using the same manner

‘Okay, but do you mind if I ask why?’ she asked.

‘I found a reason to stay…’ I replied.
