Getting Asked on a Date

Being a Young Newsie and Getting Asked on a Date Headcanons:
-You're a newsie (obviously)
-You've been a Newsie most of your life
- Like most of the other newsies, you were orphaned and never knew your parents
- So the newsies have become your family
- You're around 14 years old the first time someone takes an interest in you
- A boy, around your age
- He tells you he thinks you're cute
- And you blush
- When you get home, you immediately tell Shoes
- Because you knew if you told anyone else they would flip
- And Shoes just squeaks
- "My baby's growing up so fast!"
- Shoes has a habit of calling all the younger newsies her babies
- Don't mind her
- But the boy keeps showing up
- And he buys a pape with the money his parents give him
- And then it happens
- He asks you if you'd like to go to the bakery with him tomorrow
- And you could feel your little heart sore
- You agree
- And as always, you squeal about it with Shoes
- But to your dismay, Jo-Jo overheard you
- And Jo-Jo told Romeo
- And Romeo told Race
- And Race told Tipper
- And Tipper told Crutchie
- So obviously the news got back to Jack
- Which means that everyone knows
- And hoo-boi
- None of them were too happy
- They wanted to know everything about him
- His name
- His age
- Appearance
- You felt so overwhelmed
- "H-hey guys.We's should give 'er some room. She ain't looking too good."
- Crutchie shoos some of the other boys away to give you room to breath
- And once you've calmed yourself you explain
- You tell them all you know about him
- "I don't trust 'im."
- "You ain't met him!"
- "Still don't like 'im."
- Race and Shoes glare each other down
- "I like 'im."
- Everyone's eyes land on you
- "He's really nice. And he's been buying a pape from me almost every day."
- "The rich kind."
- Race gives you a sour look
- "No, actually, he uses his monthly allowance."
- "So he's a-"
- "Ah, shut your trap, Racetrack."
- Tipper sits beside you and pulls you into a hug
- "They's is a teenager. It's young love!"
- "Too young of a love."
- Everyone looks at Jack
- "They's is only fourteen, Tipper!"
- "And I was eleven when I met Bernie."
- "You guys didn't start datin' till yous was fifteen!"
- "And who says they's is gonna start datin' immediately?"
- That sort of shut him up
- Shaun (that's his name) took you to get ice cream
- It was the first time you had ice cream
- You loved it
- And he offered to take you again sometime
- You got back to the lodge after your date
- and of course you were flooded with an abundance of questions from the boys
- "Aye, let 'her get some sleep, huh?"
- You had the best sleep you'd had in awhile
- And in the morning
- Tipper got you up and ready early
- So you'd have time to prepare for the next flood of questions
- But you know what?
- It was worth it
- Way worth it
- And no one
- Not even Jack Kelly himself
- The charming, overprotective bastard
