The next two weeks were hostile ones. Harry wasn't bullshitting when he said he would be angry about Draco's decision. During their first few weeks of Sex Magic, Draco had mentioned his becoming a Death Eater, that he didn't care if Harry knew or not. Yet there was always a part of Harry that wished he would reconsider. Nobody could just up and un-become a Death Eater: it was a long-life decision that now Draco was forever bound to.

That Monday, Professor Mason asked Harry and Draco to stay behind a moment, causing every head to turn and whispers to erupt as the rest of the students left the classroom.

"Boys. I am not blind to the fact that there exists some anger between the two of you at the moment. The signs are not only right in front of me but are evident in your work as well. Now, I will not have any student of mine getting hurt by a careless, irate partner.

I expect the two of you to sort out any existing tension. I believe you are both familiar with veritaserum by now. Three drops under the tongue. Both of you," she said as she pulled out an all too familiar vial from her cloak pocket and handed it to Draco. After they had both unwillingly done so, Mason motioned them to their booth. "I'll be back in half and hour to check on your progress."

The last time the boys had to take veritaserum at Professor Mason's hand, they were hesitant, not wanting to speak. This time, however, Harry wanted answers.

"Why did you do it?" Harry asked as soon as he felt the veritaserum start to take effect.  They were sat across from each other, Draco with his arms crossed over his chest, and annoyed look on his face.

"Do what?" Draco asked in annoyance.

"The dark mark. Why did you accept to become a Death Eater?"

Draco clenched his jaw before the truth pried it open. "My parents are being threatened and I am as well. This is the only way I can keep up alive."

"Oh..." Harry mumbled. He had never stopped to think that Draco was doing it out of anything else but pride or spite.

"And why do you care so much about why I did it, Potter?" Draco asked, raising a blond brow.

"I wanted you to change your mind for me," Harry answered without hesitation before cursing under his breath.

Draco laughed, shaking his head in amusement. "For you? Potter I would-" He seemed to struggle here, but tried again. "I'm not-"

Harry smirked, leaning forward, "What is that? You would change your mind for me?"

"That's not up to me," Draco said, avoiding one truth with another.

"And this class... did you really come back just for a distraction?" It was the question Harry had been dying to ask ever since the veritaserum got brought out.

Draco bit his lip, shaking his head in response.

"Then why? Why did you come back after being so adamant about leaving?"

"He told me to," Draco said in a silent whisper, glancing down at his knees.

This took Harry aback. For a moment he didn't know what to say, what to ask. He was too shocked. "Voldemort... he told you to stay in the class? Why?"

At Draco's silence Harry repeated the question in a loud voice. "Why?!" If Draco staying was Voldemort's plan, there was no possibility of it being for any good reason.

Draco swallowed before answering, "Me returning was a distraction, just not for me. For you. He told me to return for the second semester, to keep you distracted; to keep your thoughts on me, not the war. With you distracted, I had the chance to-" He clamped his jaw shut having said too much.

Now it was Harry's turn to clench his jaw and glare. "You had the chance to what, Draco?"

"Figure out a way for them to enter the school," he whispered, squeezing his eyes shut.

Harry's eyes widened as his hands came up to his mouth as he slowly shook his head. "You... You found a way for him and anyone else to enter the school?" He didn't even need to see Draco's nod to know he was telling the truth. Suddenly he felt a weight in his chest like a Mountain Troll that had just fallen atop him.

The war was starting. And there was nothing he could do about it.
