After me and Draco had ushered all the students into the Great hall we went our separate ways and sat at our tables with our houses. I knew that as soon as I sat down Ginny would have a whole load of question. Guess what! I was right. “Hermione how are you going to cope?? Draco is the head-boy and I heard you and him have to share a dormitory with him.” Her face wrinkled up in disgust. Until a graceful smiled spread across her lips in which I knew Harry had grabbed her hand. “I think I can cope plus Draco seems to of changed. I don’t know how but I can feel it,” I got lost in my thoughts not realising that Ginny and Harry were talking to me. “Hermione? Have you been listening to a word I’ve said? I said Draco keeps staring at you!” I slowly turned my head to see if this was true and it was. Draco and I made eye contact, he held my gaze for a few moment before going a cherry colour and adverting his eyes from mine. I couldn’t help but chuckle silently to myself.

McGonagall began to speak and I knew the sorting was about to begin. “When I call your names I want you to come up, sit on the stool and I will place the sorting hat on your head……. Lara Delray?”

Lara was a small, dark brown haired girl who had a slight bounce in her step…. I couldn’t help but smile. “Right then…… Right…… Ravenclaw!!!” Cheers thundered from the Ravenclaw table. She was going to be intelligent and her spells were going to be off the hook. “Tom Frisko?” Again he had dark brown hair but he was extremely tall. “Hmmmmmm? Where to put you? You are brave….. Smart….. And loyal….. Where to put you?? I know…….. Gryffindor!!” I was deadly surprised! But never the less he was now family. “Megan-Leigh Farrell??” A bleach blonde girl walked up to the stool very confidently from where I was sat it was hard to tell if she was worried or an evil plan was forming in her wicked little mind. I knew instantly what house she was going to be put in. “Slytherine!” The sorting hat shouted to the hall, the whole of the Slytherine table erupted into cheering, all except Draco who seemed to look so bored. The names carried on being called until finally the last person was called. She was the smallest girl out of the lot. She had long brown curly hair and wore glasses. “Liana Kavanagh?” She kept her head down as she walked up to the stool. The look of sheer terror was across her face. Instantly I knew she was going to need someone there to boost her on. I saw her whisper something to Professor McGonagall and that is when she looked straight at me. The sorting hat made his decision quickly so she could sit down and get away from staring eyes. “Gryffindor!” Everyone cheered for her.

Dumbledore said a few words and suddenly a huge feast was laid out in front of us. Before I ate I proceeded down the great hall to were Professor McGonagall was standing at the end of all the tables. “Miss Grainger, I am making it your responsibility to make sure that Liana is happy for her time at Hogwarts. I want you to speak to her after the feast so she knows that you are there to help her if she needs it okay?” I nodded. With that I and Professor McGonagall headed back to our tables, before I had a chance to sit down Liana called me over. “What’s wrong Liana? Are you okay?”

“I am okay. I was just wondering is Hogwarts a good school? I am asking because my parents don’t have magic and neither does my sister and she called me a freak.”

“I hope that you understand that you are not a freak! Whoever says that to you is just jealous. Okay?” She nodded at me. “Hogwarts is a great school, you will make lots of friends and you get to learn magic spells and other interesting things about the magical world. If you ever want my help with school work or have any questions about anything just come and find me okay. I am normally in the library.” She looked so relieved “Thank you. I know I will definitely need some help along the way.” She giggled and turned back to the feast. I finally got to my seat and began eating.

Harry, Ginny, Neville and I started talking about what we were going to do this year. We all were hoping to achieve the highest mark we all possibly can, in other words try our best to get our NEWTS. All of us were busy with chatter and talking about our holidays and school, all of us except Ron. He wasn’t even stuffing his face full of food. I reached out to take his hand but he pulled away from me, I knew something was up. I was hurt by this gesture me and Ginny exchanged looks. Harry saw the pain shoot across my face so he decided to ask the question. “What’s wrong mate? You’ve barely eaten anything?” Ron lifted his head which I noticed to be soaked with tears. Ginny took one look at his face and I saw the pain shoot across her eyes. “Ron, what’s wrong I’ve never seen you like this.”

“It doesn’t matter. Just a little tired that’s all.” I didn’t believe him. “When is this feast over? It’s taking so long!” He was so aggravated. I wiped a tear from his face that had just fallen and whispered into his ear. “I’m here for you if you want to talk about it.” He nodded his head and went back to eating and talking with his mouthful like the Ron I know and love.

Every now and then I couldn’t help but steal sneaky looks at Draco. I didn’t know why but every time me and Draco made eye contact it sent butterflied in my stomach and caused my cheeks to go slightly pinker than normal. This has never happened to me before not even with Ron. I didn’t really see this as anything to worry about. Draco and I were just trying to be friends nothing more, nothing less. Me and Ron are together and I am happy. I just wish he would tell me when he is upset what is wrong with him. Me and Ron I could tell were slowly drifting apart more and more each day but I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t want to hurt Ron’s feelings. I could tell that Draco was something special and I wasn’t about to stop at just wondering about him.

I managed to finish my dinner, talk and laugh with my friends but there was this niggling feeling in my stomach telling me that something was going to happen, it maybe tonight it maybe in the future. I pushed the thoughts and feeling to the back of my mind just in time to hear Professor Dumbledore bid us all goodnight, knowing that it was my cue to get up and escort the other students to their dormitories.

The feast was over, me and Draco were back to doing our jobs again. As we escorted each house to their common room we realised we didn’t know where are common room was. We were on the search for Professor McGonagall.

A few minutes later we saw her standing before a portrait that had a beautiful lady dressed in gold with silvery scenery. She turned to face us with a smile tugging at her lips. “I love this dormitory, it used to be mine until the new rule came through and me and Dumbledore decided you’se two should have it.” I saw a tear trickle down her face and knew that something was on her mind instantly, but as a student it was not my place to medal. “Thank you Professor, this room must of meant a lot to you.”

“It did, maybe it can bring you and Draco just as much happiness as it did me. I hope you will make yourselves at home and remember you’se have to get along with each other! The password is Mayflower.”  She turned and fled nearly flying down the corridor. I turned to look at Draco. We must have been sharing the same thought because he had the exact same look as me on his face. “Mayflower!” His voice was so soft and silky, I was instantly in a trance. “Come on you we have to get some rest we have a full day of school tomorrow,” he was tormenting me by using his mockery against me. “Okay then dad, I will go get ready for bed.” I pouted and stormed past him pretending to be a sulky young child who didn’t want to go to bed yet. I heard a slight chuckle escape his lips and then he was in hysterics, laughing at me being a stroppy child. “Goodnight Draco, nice to know I amuse you.”

“Goodnight Hermione, you do make me laugh.”
