She tries to catch teardrops in her hands as they fall

Rivers flowing down her cheeks and forming pools in her palms

She’s sitting on the foot of my bed, here we go again

She suffering from the heartbreak of yet another worthless man

It’s the same thing every time, “I’m in love” she claims

But this is now the seventh time her soul has been maimed

It hurts to see my best friend in so much pain

Watch her search for love in places where only broken hearts remain

Her taste of trust is tart and it’s been that way from the start

All because those guys tattered and scattered the shreds of her heart

“I can’t do this anymore” she softly said

“I think it would be better if I stayed single instead”

Placing a hand on her shoulder and my eyes on hers

I told her to look at me and I asked if she was sure

Her lip quivered for a second and she replied “I don’t know”

Then she looked me dead in the eye and asked “Why are men so low?”

“Why do they try to win me like I’m cherished prize

Only to leave me to collect dust and no one to dry my eyes?”

I thought about it for a minute and began to realize

Everything she’d been told was nothing but real lies

She didn’t need my comfort; it’s the truth she needed to hear

There was something she needed to know and I was going to make it clear

I focused back on her and told her “Give me your hand”

When hers was placed in mine I said “I hope you understand

God will never give you more than you can ever handle

Even if your heart feels brittle and your soul feels fragile

There’s something important in every relationship that failed

He is preparing a relationship for you that will ultimately prevail

Just imagine, there is a man somewhere in the world

Looking for love everywhere, looking for his girl

He might have a few girlfriends that don’t work, but he knows that’s okay

Because the right girl is out there to make his heart melt away

He’s looking for you, just hasn’t found you yet

And I bet in due time he will come, don’t you fret

This man will be amazing because he will love you

And you will see in his eyes that his feelings are true”

She cut me off there and quietly asked me

“Why can’t he come now and sweep me off my feet?”

I said “I don’t have the answer to that my friend

But I know he is out there ready to love you until the end”

By now her tears had dried and there was no more concern

Because that twinkle in her eye that I love has returned

Don’t ask what came over me when I sat next to her

Held her in my arms and placed my lips on hers

I fully expected rejection of feelings I could no longer keep

But instead she kissed me back with a force that surprised me

She tasted salty and sweet and oh so divine

And it was then that I realized I wanted her to be mine

I tried to pull back and get air but instead

She followed my retreat and pinned me to the bed

When she was finished, we were both breathing hard

My heart was beating faster than an Indy race car

Between stuttered breaths I asked her what just happened

Then she smiled, blushed, and said “crazy happened”

“You always seem to make me feel like I’m worth it

So I want to give you my love because you sure as hell deserve it

I know you well enough to know you’ll never hurt me

But instead make me happy beyond my wildest dreams

What just happened was I found the man who was looking for me

You were here all along and I was too blind to see”

Truly shocked by what she said, I tried to find anything to say

But nothing came out because what she said took my breath away

So I just looked at her, surprised she was my girl

And I vowed to myself to give her the world

She’d never cry another day at the hands of a man

And she would smile every day, at least that’s my plan

For as long as we are together, I’ll make it my goal

To let her know what love feels like and make her feel whole
