WE STAYED AT THE waterfall for a long time. Taking turns swinging on our make-shift rope swing was fun, and I don't think either of us felt like driving anymore. The sky was clear, the water was blue, and I was happy. Until we got back on the road again and I made the stupid decision to turn on my phone.
The small device exploded with missed calls and text messages, the hundreds of notifications from my mother making my heart race. Maybe I shouldn't have left her all alone.
"So, where to next miss navigator?" Chris asks from the driver's seat, his eyes trailing down to my phone which is still buzzing with notifications.
"Hm," I ponder his question, deciding to just switch off my phone for now. "Have you ever been to a drive-in movie?"
He shakes his head. "Not that I can remember."
"Well, don't you think we should change that?"
He nods, turning on the engine and pulling onto the highway—all the while smiling from ear to ear.
