EPILOGUE

Brisbane Summer 2018

“Mum are we gonna have a barbie today?” Alana asked.  “Vix wants one!”

“All right, Alana, tell your brother to help your father set it up!”

Alana squealed with delight.  Vislor rolled his eyes: “You spoil her you know!”

“I know but imagine being twelve and having a bomb strapped you … I shudder with fear all the time over that!”

“Yes but you…” his sentence was cut short at the whooshing sound.

“THATS THE DOCTOR!” Alana exclaimed.  “It’s gotta be!”

No one disabused her of this supposition as they rushed out of the backdoor and the familiar blue Police Public Call Box appeared in their back garden.  Alana was jumping and bouncing on the spot.  Vislor smiled as the door opened.  Vix stayed by his mother’s side.  The Doctor emerged: Tegan’s calm immediately left her as it was HER Doctor.  “MY DOCTOR!” she exclaimed.  Abandoning dignity she rushed out of the door and assaulted her Doctor with a hug and wept all over him!

“It’s good to see you too, Tegan!” he laughed joyfully, “what’s happened to warrant such a greeting?”

“She killed someone,” Alana said excitedly rushing up.  “She’s, like, the coolest mum ever.  I had a bomb strapped to me and she zapped some bullets into this vile…!” her brother elbowed her in the back to shut his sister up as he saw the fear in her mother’s eyes.

“Tegan?” the Doctor asked.

“I had to, The RANI was going to kill everyone - even the Master - and…”

“The Master?” The Doctor said confused.  “You SAVED the Master?  My word, Tegan you … are … indestructible, aren’t you?”

“He was going to die for us!” Alana exclaimed.  “The Master’s pretty cool isn’t he?  So jealous!”

“Well I am flabbergasted,” the Doctor said.  “The Master was prepared to sacrifice himself for others!”

“Auntie Nyssa stopped him!” Alana exclaimed.  “She’s married to a Timelord called RASTEM.  Nyssa’s gorgeous isn’t she!”

“Yes,” the Doctor smiled at the girl.  “Nyssa was always rather … special!”

“That’s enough, Alana,” her father said.  “now why don’t you and your brother set out the table and make a salad?”

“What’s going on?”

“Having a barbie,” Vislor said.  “It’s great, guarantee the neighbours come over, an impromptu cricket match is bound to happen.”

“You set it up without me,” Tegan said.  “I best keep the Doctor up to date and find out why he is here?”

She led the Doctor into her lounge and kicked off her heels before sitting down on her cream leather sofa: “Nice house, the round indentations in the wall with the glass - good touch, excellent taste and with lights inside them too, oh they are fairy lights, how enchanting.”

“Yes,” Tegan smiled.  “Make us feel at home.”

“So,” the Doctor hitched up his trousers and sat down besides his friend: “What was Alana going on about?”

Vix came in with a cup of tea for the Doctor and his mother.  She once told him how he liked it.  “It’s a long story Doctor,” she said, “a lot to do with your future … so …”
