Okay guys this Isn't the super fun chapter i mentioned last chapter. i decided this chapter was necessary though. It was too big of a gap if I just went from the dinner to them meeting the parents. Next chapter Derek meets his future in-laws! :) Super proud of myself for getting this chapter up so early. It is also my longest chapter yet I believe. It always looks so much longer on word. Once again unedited, and i have not yet edited chapter two although i did see a few mistakes. Enjoy the chapter!

Chapter 3- Road Trip

"Why did we have to drive ten hour road trip again?" Derek asked looking weary from driving seven hours straight. Frankly I was beat to the excitement of seeing my parents for the first time in a long, long time wore off after the first thirty minutes of drive time.

"Because it is cheaper. And Heaven forbid if I take any money from you for a plane ticket, I will be declared a gold digger. We are definitely going to need a vehicle. So then we would have to rent one which I don't want to do."

He sighed, "We need to get some gas, and the dog probably needs to piss again."

"Do you want to stay at a hotel for the night?"

"We only have three more hours to go."

"Yes, but we have to pick up your parents from the airport anyway. And I'm hungry, and most restaurants aren't dog friendly."

"We could just get drive-thru," he said taking his eyes off the road for a second to look at me.

"No thanks. I have had enough happy meals on this trip as it is." I said glumly. Ribs sounded so good right now. Just cover them completely with BBQ sauce. Mmmm. . . .

"We could just leave Rex in the car while we eat."

I gaped at him, and then slapped him. "We are not leaving Rex in the car. That is like child neglect!"

"Oh come on it is not like it's 90 degrees out!"

"He will freeze out here!"

"He has fur, honey. He will be fine."

"We are not leaving him in the car." I said giving him my best stubborn look.

"Alright fine I'm too freaking tired to argue with you tonight." I smiled with victory then looked at the road.

"Take the next exit. I have to go pee. And it is your turn to take Rex to go potty."

He groaned. "Why did I ever get you that dog? He is more trouble then he is worth."

I slapped his arm again. "Be nice. He can hear you he is right back there."

Derek just rolled his eyes, and stopped the car in front at the gas station. "And you wonder why he doesn't like you." I said.

Derek got out of the car, and he pulled out his black wallet from the back pocket of his jeans. I got out of the car, and I went inside the store.

"Excuse me. Where is the bathroom?" I asked the young blond girl at check-out.

"Only customers can use the bathroom," she said in a bored tone not glancing up from her People magazine.

"What kind of rule is that?"

"Store policy." she shrugged turning the page. Cussing under my breath, I left the store. I ran back to the car and to get the purse I had forgotten. As I was opening the store door I dug through my purse to find my credit card. I looked around in the store, and I grabbed the first delicious treat I saw, a six-pack of Oreos.
