138.

The cold weather was biting my skin, and although I was shivering, I still refused to go inside that hotel. That penthouse that I called home.

“Miss Gabriannie--”

“Annie!” I corrected her.

“Miss Annie, please, come inside. You’re freezing cold!” The maid kept ushering me to go inside. It was the 138th time she’d come out here to ask me to come inside.

“No!” I protested. “Until you cant get my own parents to come out here and get me, I’m not going in.”

Sick and tired of my childish actions, the maid gave me one more sympathetic look, before turning around and rushing back into the warm and toasty hotel.

Probably to tell my parents, but then again, they would probably give up and let me freeze out here; in the winter of Manhattan. I watched, as a snowflake drifted down and rested onto my shoulder. The skin around it suddenly turned blue. This was not good. I know I was freezing, but I refuse to go back inside that hotel.

My body began to shake uncontrollably. That was probably because I was wearing a thin black dress, which only fell onto my thighs. Still, I wasn’t getting back into that hotel. I considered my chances of dying out here in the freezing streets of Manhattan. There was a chance that I would die, but it would be so small. Considering that I was of the upper class, dying in the streets of Manhattan was literally impossible, except if you were robbed and shot.

Self consciously, I wrapped my arms around myself, an act to defend off the cold. Which was totally useless. I didn’t know how much more longer I’d last until I’d have to drag myself into that hotel. My parents never even cared that much about me. They’d let me freeze and wait for me to drag myself in.

No! I wasn’t going to give in that easily!

Minutes drew passed. I desperately needed to get inside. I had even felt my heart slowing down. My fingers were purple and numb.

Come out already!

The shivering was making me insane. My whole body shook uncontrollably.

Just...one...more...minute…

“Hey there, sweetheart!”

I jerked my head to the side, only to find a tall blonde boy looking down at me, amusingly. His saphire blue eyes stared down at me with pity. My eyes scanned him up and down. He was dressed in a thick black coat which stopped at his mid thigh, obviously from a high designer brand.

Upper classed person, walking the streets of Manhattan at midnight? What in the world would he be doing at a time like this…unless?

I quickly tried to stand up and run, but, my numb legs didn’t allow me to run. Instead, I just stood up in my three inch stilettos and fell.
