To say I was terrified when Bart left would be an understatement. I pleaded to go instead, being the eldest but knew far too well that he would never allow me to leave - to make sure that everything was the way it should be.

Yet months passed, and it seemed like nothing had changed other than Nathaniel's scars - it now felt almost alien to be looking at him without them along with being in now normal clothing that had been easily dirtied over the months.

"What makes you think you can do any better?" Nathaniel asked as I worked on the new time machine.

I let out a grunt, tightening one of the bolts. "Because I have to," I muttered, grabbing the last bolt and slotting it into place before tightening it.

"But you won't come back," he continued, clenching his hands into fists.

"To be honest Nathaniel," I sighed, leaning back on my hands and scanning over the broken remains of the city, "there really isn't much to come back to."

As I stepped into the time machine, changing into my costume before hand, I took a single glance at Nathaniel. "If this doesn't work. . . I'm sorry, Nathaniel."

"Me too, (Y/N). Good luck and help save the future."

The door shut with a loud metal clank, sending slight shivers down my spine.

"It's okay," I whispered to myself, repeating it quietly as I tugged on the belt, crossing it over my chest and holding onto the bars next to the seat. Sucking in a deep breath, I blew it out gradually. "Let's do this," I muttered, shutting my eyes tightly before flicking the switch and being enveloped by bright white electricity.

As I opened my eyes, my first thought was that it hadn't worked, or perhaps that maybe I had been sent to the wrong year, or possibly even into the further future. Then when I opened the door, I knew I was in the right place as I came face to face with a large red 's'.

"Woah, woah, woah," I said quickly as Conner grabbed the collar of my costume, yanking me closer.

"Who are you?" He growled, eyes narrowing. My eyes glanced behind him to see a large white wolf, glaring and also growling.

"I-I'm from the future! Bart's sister!"

"He never mentioned anything about having a sister," Conner continued, still not believing my story.

"He what?!" I asked with wide eyes, before looking around the room and glaring. "That little shit. I knew I should've been the one who-"

"(Y/N)?!" Bart's voice echoed behind Conner. "Is that you?"

"Uh, duh," I said, still trying to get out of Conner's grip. "Now can you tell Conner to let go of me? The suit stretches easily."

Without another word, Conner let me go.

"What are you doing here? You should be back there - with Nathaniel."

A large weight sunk in my chest as I looked at Bart.

"I-It didn't work."

"What do you mean it didn't-"

"The mode didn't crash, Bart. Everything stayed the same except Nathaniel." Bart's face saddened at my words. "So that's why I came - to help you. And hopefully, create a future worth looking forward to."
