The word alone sends many were-children running for their mothers.
Unfortunately, I would get to know that word better than I ever wanted to.
The moon goddess originally created 5 supernatural beings called Lycanthropes, that could shift from human form to wolf form. They could live for thousands of years and were stronger than 50 men. The moon goddess realized that they were too strong, however, and created a weaker kind. Werewolves.
These werewolves had the lifespan of a human, could shift, and were as strong as 5 men.
They also had mates.
At the age of 18, werewolves can find their soulmate and will feel the mate bond. Usually if your mate died then you would too.
Eventually, 4 Lycanthropes died before they found their mate. The remaining Lycanthrope was known for being cruel and heartless. He basically ruled all of the werewolf alphas, and although his real name was Xavier, most people called him beast.
I never wanted a mate. But that was before my life completely changed. For better or worse, I don't know.
