I heard my mother talk to my father in a serious tone

"Why does it have to be my child? Of all the clans, ours was chosen..." she says regretfully "I will not lock her up, I will not be like Elise!"

"Sophie" my father started, he's never called my mother by her first name before "This is not easy for me too but as the head of the clan we must do what is necessary"

"No! She needs to be away from all this!"

"We have no choice, she will be taught how to fight and how to handle her abilities."

Powers? What powers? I suddenly remembered Luke. I had to talk to him, well I have to apologize first. I slipped away from my room without anyone noticing and left the mansion. I don't know where he is but I managed to ask people around, one elderly lady said he worked at a coffee house. I rushed to the shop and finally spotted him talking to a pretty blond girl, I rolled my eyes. I'm not so sure I would wanna disturb a hot conversation

"I can't believe you Luke, I've been by your side for a month but still you won't return my feelings!" she cried

Oops, maybe I should standby and watch just in case anything cool should happen. The blond looked like she was fresh from the beach and wow she had great long tanned legs. Suddenly as she left my eyes met Luke's

"How long were you there?"

"For a while, I was waiting for her to slap or punch you. I'd do it"

"Oh? And may I know what's the purpose of your visit?"

"You sound like an immigrant officer, I came here to apologize"

"You seem different now" his eyes pierced my heart, darn those grey eyes. "Have you transformed-"

"-about that. I think I believe you and I need explanations...about facade"

he takes my hand gently and leads me inside. We sat down, there were a few people and they reminded me of my relatives who does nothing but reads books

"Tell me, have you transformed?"

"What transformation?"

"So you haven't"

I wanted to scream.

"Look May--"

"There's a tattoo at my back, it looks like an eagle"

"Levute" he replies with a grin

"A what now?"

"It's a symbol of what kind of facade you are. There is Serpin for Serpent, Drumon for Horse, Kailur for Rat and there are others..."

"Are you a Facade?" I asked

He nods "I'm a Serpin"

"Are there others like me? A Levute?"

"Yes but it is wise not to meet them"

"What's a facade?"

"It's a vampire hunter, yet neither human nor vampire. It's identity is an anomaly, you crave blood once in a while which you must control. We must not kill the innocent especially children" he replies dryly "It's a heavy responsibility."

"How many vampires have you killed?"

"Many."

From the moment I stopped asking questions. Facades killed to survive, they are at war with vampires and there is nothing much they can do about it. There are questions lingering inside my head but all the information isn't sinking in, I can't accept it and I won't do it.

" What about those that didn't want to become vampires? It's not their fault."

"How can you say that?" He looked upset "It's our job May, it's our life. We don't have a choice, we cannot do anything about it.We kill, and we feed on them" then his mouth tightens

"What?" I almost choked

Luke explained that for us to avoid feeding on humans, we have to feed on the vampires for substitution so that our vampiric nature would subside. I became stiff when he said that. I was neither human or vampire, I was a race without a race, it didn't make sense and I feared for my worst. I decided to call it a day, Luke drove me home and to my dismay, I came home finding my relatives sitting down stiffly on the grand couch. Their heads turns in unison towards my direction upon my arrival. Creeps, I wish I wasn't related to them at all.

"Hello May"Theo says stoically

"Yo Theo" I replied

My mother came wearing a red dress, I noticed everyone was in black in white including my father. It was as if there was a cult ceremony and I was the sacrificial lamb. Oh Dear God help me.

"What you are--"

"It is time" I woman who had flaming red hair says, she stood up and held my had, her touch sent me flying to the wall, I was sticking on the wall I couldn't believe it.

I hate her! I heard the inner voice screamed inside me...

Kill her May!Kill her!! I can feel my nails sharpening but I resisted. I will not hurt anyone ever

"I am impressed by your self control" the woman who provoked me says but her eyes lingered into mine "Yet something is different about you"

Before I could answer, two men leapt in front of me , I could see their tattoos one was Serpin and the other guy with shades was a Drumon. I avoided their attack and kicked the Serpin Facade's back, I felt my hands trying to cut his throat but I forced myself to land on the couch

"Enough!" My father shouted

Everyone in the room was silent. He looked in pain as his eyes landed on me "She's passed the test, no one was killed. Her endurance and self control is...incredible"

"Daddy..." I squeaked, my mother hugged me gently and cried again. All eyes were on me, I didn't understand why my relatives were here and there are people I barely know who are also present. I realized that they were behind my father's back, his eyes were full of authority and it was hazy blue like mine. He was a Facade and the head, my own father was not my father in my eyes.

My mother massaged my back, it was aching so bad. I haven't said a word to her, I didn't eve know of she was a Facade or not.

"You did we'll on the initiation" she starts gently "Your father is proud"

"Are you a Facade too?"

"No, I am a healer"

"What's a healer, besides healing things"

"A Facade cannot marry a human being, but he can marry a half facade. The ones who carry the Facade blood but isn't awakened" she replies

"You and dad seemed devastated when I turned"

"We were hoping you'd become a healer like me, you can live a normal life if you were. Your father would've wanted it and I too..." Her voice faltered "We didn't want to you to be one because..." I can tell she was gonna cry

"I know...I'd fight for the rest of my life...I'm capable for destruction"

There was a silence between us for minutes

"Is dad..."

"Yes he is the leader and head of all the Facades, he carries the burden which was passed down for centuries. We live really long...too long"

I felt that she was holding something back

"Does he hear voices? Or have conversations with himself"

"No, he doesn't...why?"

"Nothing" I quickly replied. My mon tucked me into bed

"You are one of us now baby, training starts tomorrow".
