Sonnet XI: Temptation
©2016 Olan L. Smith
Is nothing, is blackness the sole refute
Of life, or truth? A man returns from where
To hear concerns, behold his attribute,
He stands before a cliff, and unaware
He teeters; moments pass, remembers not
Just who he is or what, a bird? Perhaps
A plant or animal. Have you forgot
The One? Shall we forget a world's collapse?
A father's voice is heard, "My son move back."
Why send me here, my LORD, another tempts.
Yet, LORD, my thoughts return despite his knack.
Refer this evil where darkness deep preempts
His hope, and he who hides with evil erred
This day, for nothing stands against His Word.
