Sonnet XLII, Greed's Requiem

Fall down upon us, rain upon our flesh,

        heap high the mounds of gluttony; while harsh-

ful nastiness, erodes and sets the sand.

        Our foolishness thins the husk before the fact;

forlorn in darkness, our power now requite,

        our inspiration doesn't flow in beds;

the valleys full of littered hollow bones.

        What reeks devours the maggots, and sharks

consume the flesh, but still we feed our greed's

        depravity, our selfishness we nurse,

until the end desire will lust for more,

        yet, hope will harvest fury's rotted flesh.

Repentance brings this life's ideal reward,

        and turns away immoral selfish crowns.

A.N. Sonnet XLII is written in blank verse(usually iambic pentameter) with a rhyme scheme.
