Broken Links - Chapter 5

<P>Chapter 5  </P>

<P>As I turned onto the street I cut the engine and pushed the bike the rest of the way. I knew I was in trouble; he hated me being on my dad's motorbike with my dad there with me!!! Imagine what he's going to think when I'm on my own!!! I walked into the house to see him in the living room petting his dog Holly.  </P>

<P>"Hi ..."  </P>

<P>"Well its nice to see you alive!!"  </P>

<P>"Conner I was never in any danger! No one is on the roads at 2am!"  </P>

<P>"That's not the point! Anyway ... where do you think Katelyn is?"  </P>

<P>"Where she takes Welly!"  </P>

<P>"Why there? Its just an abandoned field!"  </P>

<P>"Exactly! But think about it ... she always goes for walks when she has things on her mind ... what if she's still there?"  </P>

<P>"And what if she isn't?"  </P>

<P>"Then I'll have to leave it to the police then wont I!!"  </P>

<P>"I'm not sure Brooklyn!"  </P>

<P>"What is there to lose?" He thought about that for a while ... then opened his arms for me and I went into the embrace automatically. "What if I lose you?" he whispered into my hair.  </P>

<P>"You won't. Ever!" I replied and kissed his neck. He pulled back and looked into my eyes with desperation, "Please ... just promise me one thing?"  </P>

<P>"Anything!" I replied and he leaned forward and gently placed his lips on mine.</P>

<P>I headed straight towards the abandoned field near Katelyn's house. It was pitch black and there wasn't a street light for ages! "Thank god Conner gave me this!" I fished the heavy-duty torch out my backpack and flicked the switch. The torch lit up half the field. "Better ... now if I know Katelyn, which I do, she'd be pacing somewhere!" I moved the beam of light towards the first set of trees. I started towards them with my eyes alert for any sign of movement.  </P>

<P>"Katelyn?? KATELYN?? Kate its Brook!! Come on Kate ... if you're out here at least show me you are!!!" I walked aimlessly around the place for about 2 hours. I almost gave in ... No! I am not giving up on her, I thought sternly; she wouldn't give up on me!!  </P>

<P>"KATELYN JONES YOU BETTER COME OUT OF YOUR HIDING PLACE OR I'M JUST GOING TO HAVE TO EAT THESE SWEETS BY MYSELF!!" I pulled the bag of Haribo and started shaking it around making the packet rustle around. "MMMMMM I DO LOVE THESE ... THEY ARE MY FAVOURITE!!" I carried on yelling. Then, just before I really did give up, she came out from behind the trees smiling sweetly.  </P>

<P>"You always were gobby and greedy Brookie," she whispered. I beamed at her, "And you always were one for hide and seek" She laughed. I walked slowly towards her, making sure I didn't scare her. "Come on Katie ... lets get you ho---"  </P>

<P>All of a sudden her facial expression turned from calm to utter terror in seconds. "NO!! I can't go home!!! Never again will I go home!!" she screamed at me  </P>

<P>"Kate ... what's happened?"  </P>

<P>"EVERYTHING!! I CANT TAKE IT NO MORE!" she had started shaking violently and produced a gun from her back pocket.  </P>

<P>"KATELYN DON'T YOU DARE!" I screamed and ran towards her. Katelyn aimed the gun towards me and pulled the trigger ...</P>

<P>Pain exploded in my leg as the bullet penetrated my skin. I tried to get up and get to Katelyn ... My vision was blurred and all I could see was the outline of Katelyn as she brought the gun up to her head ... I heard myself scream followed by a gunshot ...</P>
