The entire movie "The Grinch" was really Cindy-Lou-Who, a patient in an insane asylum, having insane hallucinations about her father, 'Mr Grinch'.

' Max' represented the dog she had once owned, that had died in a fire when she was young. 

Feeling responsible for his death, she dreamt that he was tortured by the very same criminal who she had let slip accidentally.

She attempted to murder her father, but instead ended up killing her brother.

She hid the body securely, making sure that not a drop of blood remained in plain sight.

Every Christmas, the kids from a nearby elementary school would sing Christmas carols outside the building. These are the songs all the Whos down in Whoville sing.
