That night, Annika, Jamal, Danya, Elayna and Tyler go into the tunnels and to the chess board.
"I'll be the one who directs the moves." Danya says. "The one who stays behind."
"You just want to get out of it!" Tyler mocks her.
"Actually she's the best at chess, that's why!"Annika remarks. "Let's begin."
"Annika, move forward two spaces." Danya commands.
Annika does as she's told.
Danya keeps directing everyone until they almost win.
"We're doing it guys!" Tyler cheers.
"Uh- I'm right next to a statue..." Elayna shivers. "What happens if a statue eliminates you?"
"We're about to find out." Annika winces. "I'm next to a statue, too."
"Elayna and Annika," Danya takes a deep breath,"move one space to the left."
They both do as they're told and nothing happens.
They both sigh.
But a statute turns and faces Annika.
The space Annika is standing on disappears from underneath her.
"ANNIKA!" Jamal exclaims.
Annika falls down into the hole, and all you can hear are her screams fading to nothing.
