12:00 P.M.

AMITYVILLE, NEW YORK

“Are you ready to see the new house, Nath?” Tom asked Nathan. Nathan nodded excitedly.

“I’m a bit scared, though.” He said.

“Why’s that?” Tom cocked an eyebrow.

“What if… What if I want to cook something and I start a fire?” He said, chuckling lightly.

“Ah, I’m sure you won’t do that,” Tom winked. “C’mon, it’s a nice place! It really suits you.” He said.

“Thanks, Tom.” Nathan said.

“You’re welcome, mate!”

Nathan and Tom exited Tom’s house and got into his car. Tom started pulling out of the driveway, when Nathan stopped him.

“Wait!” Nathan said. Tom jumped and stopped short.

“Geez, Nath, what now?”

“I left something in my room!” Nathan ran back into the house and grabbed a picture of him and his family. Ever since the boys moved to America, he’s missed them dearly. He couldn’t believe he almost forgot them!

Nathan then ran back to the car, out of breath. “Did you just come back from a running marathon or something?” Tom chuckled. Nathan didn’t respond. Tom sighed and started driving off to Nathan’s soon to be new home.

“This is it?” Nathan asked, looking up at the medium-sized house.

“This is it!” Tom confirmed. “Do you like it?” He asked.

“I love it!” Nathan smiled widely at Tom. Though, he still couldn’t figure out why Tom bought him a house. This wasn’t like Tom…

“Tom?” Nath asked as he grabbed a box from the trunk of the car.

“Yeah?”

“Why did you buy me a house anyway?”

Tom grabbed a box from the back seat. He didn’t really want to tell Nathan why because he knew that Nathan would get mad at him. Or maybe offended. But Tom knew that he couldn’t just  buy a house for Nathan with no reason to it. Tom sighed.

“In all honesty, Nath, I was erm… Thinking that you could use a place of your own… Y’know, in reward of being a good roommate and all…” Tom couldn’t help but to lie. But Nathan saw right through him.

“Tom…” He said. “Why did you buy me a house?”

Tom sighed again, “Look, Nath… It’s not to be mean or anything, you know you’re like my brother and all… But,” Tom paused. “I… Sort of asked Kelsey to move in with me and she accepted. And so I thought that if I just bought you a house, you’d-” Nathan cut Tom off.

“So you asked Kelsey to move in… WHILE I was still living there?! And you just ‘buy me a house’ so that I HAD to move out, right? You know you could’ve just asked me!” Nathan said. Anger and sadness washed over him.

“I know, Nath! And I’m sorry! I was also afraid that you’d have no where to stay if I asked you to move out!”

Nathan sighed. Tom was right about that part. But it still upset him that he did something like that.

“I don’t even know what to say, Tom. I’m so pissed that you did that, but at the same time I’m grateful that you went out of your way to buy me a house, even though it was for just one reason.” Nathan gave him a look. Tom hung his head in shame.

“I’m truly sorry, Nath. Really, I am. I know that was a horrible and stupid thing to do. I… I was being selfish.”

Nathan couldn’t really stay mad at Tom, though. He saw how truly sorry Tom was. “It’s okay, Tom. I forgive you.”

Tom looked up at Nathan. “Really? I mean, I could understand if you don’t really want to forgive me, what I did was terrible and-” Nathan once again cut him off.

“Tom, it’s okay.” Nathan chuckled. Tom smiled and walked over to Nathan giving him a ‘man hug’.

“Now c’mon, these boxes aren’t going to go inside and unpack themselves!”

Nathan smiled and picked up the box he previously held in his hands. He followed Tom and walked inside, which surprised him a lot.

“Wow,” He breathed.

“Amazing, isn’t it?” Tom said.

The interior was almost vintage, but not too vintage. It looked new, but not as new at the same time. It was pretty big on the inside as well. Nathan actually couldn’t be happier with Tom’s choice.

“How much was this?” He asked, putting the box down.

“Surprisingly, it was only one thousand!”

Nathan’s eyes widened, “That cheap?!”

“Yeah!”

“Tom,” Nathan said, “A cheap house could mean that there are things wrong with it…” He trailed off. Not that Nathan was being ungrateful, but usually a cheap house meant something…

“What do you mean?” Tom asked.

“I don’t know, maybe the floors are weak or the walls have cracks in them? …  It... It could be haunted,” Nathan said, looking around.

“Haunted?” Tom laughed, “Nath, I’m sure it’s fine. It still looks new, doesn’t it?” Tom patted him on the shoulder. Nathan groaned internally. Maybe this place wasn’t really his favorite after all…
