UNBEKNOWNST to Juno as she swung towards the crepuscular sky, Elliot was sitting next to her with his head rested on pole of the swing set, waiting for her to leave.

He waited until the gibbous moon ran out of visions to impart and the orchids and asphodels retracted their spring-damp petals. The champagne-coloured sky dripped honey. There was once a boy who flew too close to the sun and lost his wings.

It was at twenty minutes and forty seconds that her fingers let go of their grasps. Late blossoms caressed her satin skin, yearning for just one more evocative touch from her sun-stained fingers. There are flower buds threaded through her brittle ribs and if only they could see the sunlight maybe they'd teach her how to bloom. His eyes briefly met hers and he glanced to the ground.

Maybe he understood Icarus.
