Chapter 2

_____________________________________________________________________________

I stared at the pink fluffy thing that my aunt was currently dangling under my nose. It shouldn’t even be classified as a piece of clothing, let alone a skirt! “uhm…” I say carefully, it was the ugliest thing I have ever laid eyes on. “I don’t think it’s really my taste.” I said at last, trying not to hurt Julie’s feelings too much. “Oh,” she said looking a bit hurt, then turning away to find some other disaster she thought I would want to wear.

I sighed inwardly and looked longingly across the mall at my favorite store, Puma. My wish to please my aunt was the only thing stopping me from running for dear life towards the store.

“What about this one?” I hear Julie say behind me. I turn around and instantly knew it was a mistake. If the last one was ugly than there was no adjective to actually describe this skirt. It was horrendous. I felt my face blanch of all color. “Are you okay?” Julie asked worriedly, complete with a look of utter concern on her face. “I-I-I think I’m going to get some air” I stutter. “Okay…” her voice carries after me as I was already bolting out of the store.

I must not have been looking where I was going because before I was even one hundred feet from the entrance of the store, I ran right into someone! “I am so, so sorry” I apologized profusely, then looked up to see my unsuspecting victim’s face.

I was speechless.

The guy that stood before me was absolutely gorgeous. He had deep blue ocean eyes, a warm, perfect tan, and beautiful sandy-blonde hair that I would kill for. He reminded me of the beach perfectly.

It took me a few seconds to realize that I was standing here, staring, like a total idiot. “I’m um, sorry… for running into you” I said again, as if to cover up the fact that I had been practically drooling over him. “Its quite alright,” he said, smirking “It’s not everyday a pretty girl like you runs into me” he says, winking.

That instantly knocked me back to my senses, and my guard was up - this was basic math. Hot guy + smooth talking = heartbreaking player. I put on a fake smile and said sweetly “It was nice talking to you but I really better be going.” He looked surprised, like that had never happened before. To be honest, it probably hadn’t. “I hope to see you again soon--“ he recovered with smoothly.

It took me a few moments to realize that the reason he cut of was because he wanted a name. Crap! I can’t give this guy my name! I searched my mind for a name I could give this stranger frantically. “Laney” I finally said. “Adam” he responded, smiling.

I broke the awkward silence with a quick goodbye and practically ran for Aunt Julie’s car. That guy, not matter how gorgeous he was, gave me the creeps.
