Chapter 9 ~ The truth

Sheriff pushed through the grey hospital doors. By now he had decided to ignore his son who'd been following him all the way to the waiting room. The two Stilinski's saw Nova sitting on one of the chairs when they turned the corner. She seemed bored and tired but when Stiles had suggested to drive her home in the early morning, she had been stubborn and told him no.

''Sheriff?'' She frowned at first. When Nova realized that the Sheriff was here for her, she stood up from the horrible blue chair.

''Nova, could you come with me?'' Sheriff questioned politely with a frown on his forehead. He brought her outside and helped her into his car.

''Did I do something wrong, sir?'' Nova replied, not particularly scared of the police man as she knew that she hadn't done anything wrong herself. For a moment she wondered whether she had done something while being unconscious..

Sheriff looked to his right and forced a warm smile on his face, nonetheless he remained serious. By now he had noticed how she was wearing one of Stiles' shirts, but he decided not to ask about it. ''There is some explaining for you to do..''

Soon they were at the police office. Stiles, of course, had followed the two all the way to the police office. However he was separated from them when Nova and his father went into a more private room. All Stiles could do from there on was peek through the window and try to read the lips.

She sat down in front of the Sheriff.

''Ask away.'' There was no promise made that she would be honest but Sheriff trusted Nova to tell him the truth. He knew she was a quiet person, but she wasn't a liar.

There are certain things, certain experiences, that you should keep for yourself. Perhaps it is because you want to, or maybe because you need to. These things are called secrets. A secret was no secret when it wasn't secret. Nova lived by that.

''We've been over this before. You need to tell me how to contact your parents. It is first of all highly illegal to be in the states without a visa for you. Do you have that, a visa?''

Nova nodded softly, then looking down at her hands without saying anything else. She began playing with the hem of her shirt, as if it helped her think. She felt nervous, her entire stomach was swarming with moths as she felt the color in her skin fade away.

''Nova, I am trying to help you. We don't know anything about you, where you came from.. Who your parents are. Why you're here..'' He grabbed some papers from one of the cabinets before he searched for a pen.

''I understand.''

Satisfied with how she'd be okay with cooperating, Sheriff started his investigation. For a second his eyes shot to the window against which his son's face was glued to. ''Let's start with your parents, or guardians. Who's your father?''

She shrugged her eyes, almost appearing carelessly. ''In all honesty, I'm not sure.'' She saw the confused look Sheriff gave her, ''He divorced from my mother back when we lived in the Netherlands. I believe I was five or six at the time. At such a young ago I probably thought his name was dad and my mother never wanted to talk about him when I grew older. He moved to America as my mother and I stayed in Holland. Since that I never got the chance to talk to him.''

Sheriff nodded every now and then, writing down keywords. ''What about your mother? Mrs. Klein, it was. What is her first name?'' He asked. Nova looked at him, finding it just as strange how there was barely any information about her. Especially with all the advanced technology you would assume that there had to be something about her in files.
