"I Fooled You" (poem, free verse) January 1st

(Inspired by "White Flag", song by Dido.)

I fooled you.

I knew I could.

I ignored the perfection of your windswept hair, looked over the depth of your sea-blue eyes.

At least, I tried to.

I held my head high with confidence I didn't feel. I laughed with false joy. I spoke casually, as if to a friend.

I guess that's all I am to you.

You didn't see past my thin veil.

You think I've moved on.

I fooled you today.

But I haven't fooled my heart.

(Author's note: I'm sorry. It was late, and I had to write something. This has nothing to do with how I feel in real life and I suck at writing romance because I can't write what I don't know, and this, I don't know.)

(Extended author's note: I didn't realize the lyrics said "I will go down with this ship"! Argh! Feels!)
