I clamped the straighteners on the last piece of my golden hair.

Finished.

With my eye brush, I lightly dusted a shimmery gold over my eyelids.

I glossed my lips with my favorite pink lip gloss, I smacked them together and took a look at myself in the mirror.

What had changed since yesterday… When I was 15. What was different?

I stared myself down until I came to a conclusion… I was still the same old Ella Flemings.

The one with the amazing life.

Showered by gifts and praise.

When in reality… My life was nothing like that at all.

Okay so I’m popular. So what? I’m 5”5, size 4. When I’m not at school, I don’t wear makeup, I’m in sweat pants and hair up.

Like any other teenage girl, there’s the Prince Charming that doesn’t give me the time of day.

Boo hoo. Life goes on.

I have better things to do anyway.

I was turning 16 today at exactly 9:08pm.

It’s 14th of July so it’s a bajillion degrees outside.

That results in a pool party for me.

Not to go in the pool of course, just to lounge around in our bikinis and look pretty.

“Ellaaaaa! People have started to arrive so get your booty down here gurl!”

I laughed and rolled my eyes.

“Coming!”

I spritzed a bit of my new Rihanna perfume over my body and hopped down the stairs to my best friend Alice Becker.

Alice was always full of happy rays and good energy.

She was the only person who could make me smile on a bad day.

“OH. EM. GEE! Ellaaa! You look amaaaazing as always!”

Alice exclaimed with her hands over her mouth, which quickly ushered my into a hug.

“Come! People are arriving. Oh hi there Jason! I haven’t seen you in ages…”

Alice, being the social butterfly she was, went out to meet and greet the people to my party.

I mentally prayed to myself

‘Dear God, Please let me survive my Sweet 16. Amen.”

And with that, I opened the door and smiled at all of my friends.

And then I saw her.

I stopped smiling.

I narrowed my eyes.

“BITCH. WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE?!”
