Sunflowers towered over us like trees
And petals fell and tangled themselves
In our hair
And we pretended we were princesses
And we dropped our shoes and
Pretended we were
Cinderella
Until our mothers came to take us home
And sleep.
So we dreamed of finding our
Prince Charming
And dancing with him until the clock struck midnight.
But we got older and we dressed the way
We thought our Prince would appreciate
With low cut tops and
With high cut shorts.
And we endlessly practiced our hair flips
And our model walks.
We didn't know that this wouldn't attract our Prince
But push him away.
So instead,
The flowers fell from our hair
And the clothes fell from
Our bodies,
Because we didn't know that
We weren't supposed to find our
Prince
But that he was supposed to
Find us.
