I looked over my shoulder at Fern that was just as curious as me, he looked at me nodding for me to come out. I took another step backward, one hand on the door handle to close it when I heard my name being yelled.

"Miss Rodriguez," I nearly screamed my response.

"Yes sir?"

"You're female."

What

"Uh...yes sir?" I looked at Fern who had the same flabbergasted look I would have, what did Gabriel just say.

Richard turned around in his chair again to look at me, perhaps he also was wondering if I was female. Richard met my eyes shrugging to my confused expression, no one was on the same page as Gabriel.

Gabriel nodded as he turned around, walking to his desk and sitting down in his big leather chair, spinning his expensive fountain pen between his fingers.

"What are you doing next week?"

"Sir?" I asked.

"It's not a hard question but I'll slow it down for you," he said dragging it out "What are you doing next week?"

"Working sir?" I asked, surely  I was working next week or does this mean I was being fired. I knew it, it wasn't my fault I choked on the water, maybe I should tell him.

"After that Miss Rodriguez. When the Christmas break starts. You have two weeks off," He clarified. Oh right, of course, how could I forget it was shutdown week.

"Actually three sir I applied for my annual leave. I'm going away to see my family in the first two weeks of January."

"Oh," he frowned rubbing his chin with his hand.

"You already approved it," I point out before he could take it back. I asked for this leave months ago.

"Right yes of course." He said muttering to himself in a way. His eyebrows dipped deep in thought and I shifted on my feet.

"Cancel that. We have a business meeting. Highly important. We must attend that." He leaned over writing something down.

I nodded and then paused. Wait. What did he just say?

"That's all you can leave. No. Not yet give me the summary report before you go."

Of course the bastard remembered the summary report. "But sir you said I could have this time off, you said it was fine." I took a step into the meeting room, well aware that there were two other people involved in this conversation that didn't need to be here.

Gabriel cleared his throat, "The situation has changed. You can meet your family anytime they're not rushing off anywhere now," he flipped a page.

"I have to attend my sister's wedding sir." I pointed out, there was no way I could miss her wedding. After all I was the brides maid, not the maid of honour but still important.

Richard opened his mouth to say something but Gabriel waved a hand to silence him.

"When's the wedding?"

"January 11."

"Very well. I'll have you there on that day. Other than that you're coming to the meeting." Gabriel nodded.

I opened my mouth to say something, I wasn't the main of honour but I still had to do everything in that role because the actual maid of honour was useless. I closed my open mouth, probably inviting a fly to come in, he wouldn't understand it.

"I don't think I can do that."

"Do you want to keep your job or not." he asked, his grey eyes barely looking at me.
