#17 Revert Story

"I am not born Muslim. I converted 3 years ago from a very different life. I lived a life of destruction. Partied very much and nearly died due to addiction. When I was 20 I decided I wanted to leave my life and everything behind.

I placed all my necessities in a bag and got onto a freight train. I never planned on returning home, I wanted to experience life in a different way, wanted to give up all this material world.

I learned what it is like to be homeless and to have nothing and to survive off people in this world willing to help. I slept in the woods, on the side of highways in rain and and slept in alleys. In my heart, I believed that if God was with me he was protecting me.

Eventually on my travel I met a group of Muslims in Texas. They took me and my travel partner in and housed and fed us. They asked for nothing in return. We discussed Islam. What they were telling me I always felt in my heart was the truth already.

Then I started to read the Quran, a few ayah into al-Baqarah my eyes began to swell for fear and love. My heart opened up and in the deepest depths i felt my heart turning toward Allah. SubhanAllah it was the greatest feeling I have ever felt. At this point, I learned that giving everything up was my way to get close to Allah.

May it be easier for us to put ourselves in the shoes of others, to relate ourselves to one another, we are an umma and we must come together to help each other and the world. Islam is the greatest gift to the world!
