We had been on the puffing red steam train for a few hours and I was getting quite restless. I knew we were getting closer to Hogwarts with each second that passed. While we were talking, a girl popped her head around the door and told us we were getting close to Hogwarts and that we should change into our robes, my heart fluttered and I rose to get my robes. I told my friends I was going to the bathroom to change. On my way there I heard someone gushing "I have to be in Slytherin, it would be a tragedy for us all if I wasn't" It was non other than Draco Malfoy himself. I scowled and kept walking. He spotted me before I could make my escape. "Who have we here?" he drawled in my face. "Rose Kelly" I stated and attempted to walk around him but he was too quick for mw. He blocked my way and the two goofy looking boys that appeared to be his friends assisted. they stood directly in my way, filling uo every possible inch of space making any attempt to escape impossible.

Then he looked over at me and smirked "which house do you belong in babe"

"Gryffindor" I spat at him and stormed off. Quickly I pulled on my robes and shoved my muggle clothes into a bag. I hurried back to my friends just in time to catch our first glimpse of Hogwarts. It was huge. "wow" I gasped "it's incredible". Then the train screeched to a halt and we all piled out of it. "firs' years" I looked up to see a huge man with a beard smiling in our direction. I noticed he was looking at Harry. "ello 'arry" he smiled. He continued to look for first years. We all got into small boats and made our way across the lake.

Soon enough we were standing in a line to be sorted. I was really nervous. I was afraid to get split up from my friends. The line moved along at a steady rate with the sorting hat shouting out the different houses. Then professor MacGonagall called out "Rose Kelly" I stumbled up to take a seat on the stool awaiting me. Hermione had already been sorted to Gryffindor. I prayed for Gryffindor. Suddenly the hat shouted out "Gryff... Oh no wait your a Slytherin!!".  "Slytherin?" I couldn't bear it. Here I was at Hogwarts my dream school, and I was sorted into the one house I hated. It wasn't fair. The Slytherin table went wild. There were clapping like crazy and there were wolf-whistles coming from the boys too. I felt tears prick my eyes. I sat down in an empty seat. The next name I heard was "Draco Malfoy" the second the hat touched his head it shouted out "Slytherin" he sat down next to me. "so your in Slytherin eh?" he asked menacingly. I turned my back to him. He didn't deserve two seconds of my attention.

This was possibly the worst thing ever to happen to me. I looked over in the direction of the Gryffindor table and sighed. They all looked as if they were having fun. Suddenly a mass of food appeared in front of us.I hadn't eatten since my breakfast that morning but I was in no mood to stuff my face like the rest of the hyperactive first years. There were roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, roast chicken and every sort of food you could think of. I glared at Draco. He was talking to another girl with short black hair. I think she called herself Pansy Parkinson.I was so jealous that Draco Malfoy was happy. He wanted to be in Slytherin. Heck he belonged there! But I didn't. I wanted to be in Gryffindor with my friends. They looked over at me with pity in their eyes.I suddenly got up and walked out of the great hall. Draco turned around and glanced at me. He looked away again before I caught him. I headed in the direction of the dungeons towards our cold dormitories. I hated the cold. Ours were especially freezing because our dormitories were right under the black lake.I made my way up to the girls dormitories and found my trunj was already unpacked an dwas stored away at the and of my bed. I collapsed into my bed enjoying the feeling of the soft mattress and warm blankets. tgings could only get better now that I had hit rock bottom. I closed my eyes and attemted to fall into a deep sleep.

A high cold shriek of laughter filled the room. A snakelike face flashed before my eyes. I then saw one of the professors I had seen earlier. I recognised him as Professor Quirrell, our defense against the dark arts teacher. He looked scared as he stuttered "y-y-yes-s ma-master-r, of c-course" Professor Quirrell then proceeded to put back on his turban. I was relieved as I saw the snakelike face covered by the turban. Suddenly I sat up and realise I was covered in a cold sweat. My blankets were trapped in my tightly clenched fists as I shivvered uncontrollably. Slowly I tried to ease the blankets out of my hand and forget about the cold high shriek I had heard.

"it's only a dream" I told myself shakily.
