Chapter 19

In side the School of Shifters' Den

Chaos

"Okay so, to start this session is starting off with the basics. Yes, I know you probably already know this, but I don't care. You are in my classroom. You have to follow my rules. You will respect everyone that walks into this building. I don't care if you like them or not. You will not use profanity in this room. There are little kids down that hallway and we do not need them cussing. This class is going to be lecture-like. Since you're the only student in this class, you can ask questions anytime, if you're confused about something or need a better description, etc. What I absolutely will not allow to happen is you zoning out in my class, not doing your homework, or not showing up at class. You get one strike. Only one, you screw up without a reasonable excuse, you're done. I'll go straight to Logan and he'll sign you up for regular classes with other shifters your age. Then you'll have to go to school for six hours, not two."

I blinked at Lucy. I could finally understand why Derek would like his mate. With his upbringing in the military life, Derek was strict. Lucy had a spine of steel and wouldn't allow being pushed aside. Derek would be attracted to her dominate side. An Alpha himself wouldn't want a weak mate.

"Okay." I said. I was eager to learn about biogenetics. I wanted to know what the difference between me and humans were and the difference between and me and shifters. I wanted to know what I could do personal. No, I didn't want to know, I need to know. I craved to know. Lucy walked over to the podium and I slunk into the nearest chair. I pulled out the notebook and pens Carla gave me. "These are from Braden." She said before handing them over to me.

Lucy powered up her slim Macbook and projector. She had a tiny clicker in her hand. Lucy cleared her throat and clicked the clickor. A picture of a strand of DNA popped up. "So we are going to start with the basic human DNA. As you might know, DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. It is a long molecule that is contained in almost every single cell inside our body. DNA is found in the nucleus of our cells. Now the nucleus is found in both plant and animal cells. It is considered to be the 'brain' of the cell since it is the control center.

"DNA is made up of four bases: Adenine, Thymine, Guanine, Cytosine. Each of the bases are designated A, T, G, C. The beginning letter of each of their names."

Lucy clicked and two pictures showed up. One was a chemical structure and the other was a strand of DNA with a highlighted section. "Each strand is composed of array of the four bases. When the strand pairs with another strand, the bases always combined with the same bases. So adenine will always pair with thymine. And thymine will always pair with adenine. So that leaves guanine is left cytosine. And cytosine with guanine. Reasonable easy to understand. So the adenine/thymine and the guanine/cytosine are called base pairs."

"Today's lecture is going to focus on adenine. Adenine is considered to be an important molecule of life because it is an integral component of DNA, RNA, and ATP. As you can see in the diagram, adenine has a six-sided ring attached to a five-sided ring."

As Lucy voice continued to explain the chemical compound of adenine, I began to jot down notes. I sat in the seat with my ears glued to the lecture, absorbing everything in. I was so wrapped up into her speech, I didn't notice the two hours fly by.

"This is why the molecules ATP, and its nitrogenous base Adenine, are so important. And with that I'll conclude this class today." I snapped my head up, surprised. Lucy laughed softly. "I will admit I was a little apprehensive of teaching you, but you completely dispelled my worries." She walked over to my desk and glanced down at my notebook. I had the chemical structure drawn out with arrows pointed to certain spots indicating what the bonds were and which atoms they were connecting together. She finger dragged across the inked page and then pulled away.
