"Just take them every 6 hours or anytime the pain is bothering you." Dr. Madden said, handing me a bottle of perception pain pills.

             I nodded.

"And the only reason I'm letting you wear an arm brace instead of a cast is because your teacher requested it, so be sure to thank him."

I glanced at Mr. Carter, who was paying the bill and sighed, "I will."

He smiled at me and put his hand on my shoulder, "Be careful. If there really are problems at home, call the number on the back of this card." He slipped a small business card in my hand, "It'll connect you with one of my close friends. He's an excellent man and detective. He'll help you out at any time of the day."

How many times do I have to tell them that I can take care of myself?

I smiled at him and put the card in my pocket, "Thank you."

Mr. Carter came to my side, "Ready to go?"

            I looked at him, "Yeah."

I waved by to Dr. Madden and left out the double doors.

Mr. Carter opened up the car door for me and I slid in, him following shortly behind.

"You still have time to go to fourth block-" He pausing when he heard my stomach growl.

My cheeks redden slightly. I hadn't eaten since yesterday at lunch.

He chuckled, "Unless you want to get something to eat."

I shook my head, "I can wait till I get home. Besides, I already owe you over $100 for the hospital bill."

He smiled and shrugged, "Don't worry about it. It was my idea to go there."

            "Yeah, but-"

"I said it was fine." He smirked, "Besides, if it bothers you that much, you could always tell me why you're injured."

I groaned. He was being nice, why'd he have to ruin it? "I told you I fell down the stairs."

He nodded, "That's what you said."

            "What else do you want?"

            "The truth." He said simply.

"It is the truth." I insisted.

He sighed, admitting defeat, "If you really want to pay me back, just promise me you'll come to me if something like this happens again."

I nodded. There was no way I was going to tell him.

I just noticed we were pulling into Denny's parking lot.

            "What are you doing?"

He turned off the car, "We're eating lunch. Come on."

I gawked as he got out, "Are you coming or am I enjoying the food alone?"

I unbuckled quickly and followed him, "You know, I think it's against school regulations to take student out to eat."

He shrugged and opened the door for me, "How are they going to find out? Unless you feel like telling them. Then I'd just have to explain what was going on with the hospital issue and..."
