Interview: ShadieTree

My Thoughts On ShadieTree: ShadieTree is a unique individual. Our interview was a good one. At times she seemed to not have a lot to say, but I'm sure there are reasons for this. Maybe it was because we've never spoken to each other before, maybe she was shy, maybe she just didn't have much to say. I was certainly scared of asking her to elaborate. Would that make me look like a dick? Would the readers think I was being bossy? After offending someone else I interviewed, I definitely didn't want to cause another mishap, so I let her respond how she wanted to. It adds individuality, if nothing else. Yet in some ways I think it may have been a mistake for me to hold back. Maybe I should have been more assertive in my interview? I'm not sure anymore. What's done is done.

Either way, she is a good writer and I've had the pleasure of reading one of her books. Which is obviously Kissing Booth.

Hi ShadieTree, how are you?
I'm pretty good and you?
I'm pretty good haha. My nose is bothering me though.

Why?

Ugh, I just have really bad allergies. Year long and stuff. I'm allergic to tree and grass pollen. Would you like to do a formal introduction of yourself? Maybe your pen name and such?

Well, my real name is Destyne, but my pen name is Lara Verne. Don't know how I came up with it, but it flows and I like it.

That's cool. It does kind of roll off the tongue. I can't find a good pen name right now. What genres do you write?

Um, romance, teen fiction, humor, mystery, paranormal... I think I've tried my hand at pretty much everything

Are you good at them all or do a few feel better to write?

Teen fiction because I'm in high school so I guess it comes naturally to write high school related stories

Hm I'm the same way. I think I'm good at writing teen fic, but I haven't written many that actually take place in high school. I'm more of a sci fi, fantasy person.

That's cool. I'd love to do that but it requires too much planning and I'm a write as I go kind of girl

Haha! That's so true. Most of my sci fi did take a bit of planning. My current books I'm writing as I go. So do you have a favorite combination of genres? Like I think sci fi romances are interesting to write and read.

None in particular that I can think of

Okay!I forgot to ask this, but what should I call you? What do you go by?

I go by either, My pen name or my actual one

Okay. Can I call you Shadie?

Sure

Great, so Shadie, which book would you say is your most popular?

Kissing Booth

Why do you think that one is the most popular?

 Yeah, that's totally fine

[Here I knew that Wattpad was acting out, but on the off chance I decided to make sure-]

I'm sorry?

Sorry wattpad is being weird. But because it has the most reads, votes and comments lol. Haha it's fine. Yes, but like do you think there are things that set it a part from your other stories that would give it an advantage?Hmm, well it does feature two boys in a relationship which appeals to a certain subgroup of Wattpad and I think it's pretty funny, so that might make readers stay once they've already started reading. Well I have to say I've read Kissing Booth and loved it. What made you start writing boyxboy? I read one and it caught my interest. I think they're more fun to write than regular boy and girl relationships, although I do have a few of those on here as wellWhat about boyxboy makes them more fun to write do you think?Idk [I don't know] I think boy personalities are more interesting than girl ones. Idk [I don't know] if that makes sense Sure it makes sense. Maybe even because you're a girl and so you already have an idea of how we act as females? I guess maybe, and I really like gay couples Alright, awesome haha. So how do plot ideas come to you? I usually think of stories that I would like to read but haven't been written yet That's the same as me! :DDo you freehand all your stories or have you planned any? I do a mixture of both Which have you actually planned? Um, I've planned Diaries of the Dead, Addicted, serendipity and the human project So what's easier to do in your opinion? Plan or free write? You said you were write as you go so I'm guessing free write haha. Planning is easier for me to update quickly since I already know what to write, but free writing is more lazy and I'm a lazy person lolI hear ya. I free write 90% of my stories. Are you ever prone to writer's block?Oh yeah of courseHow do you deal with it? I usually leave it alone and work on another story. Fortunately, my writer's block usually only hits me for one story at a time. So once I lose inspiration for one story, I focus on another until I get it back. What if you don't get it back?I usually do.Oh okay. Right so, do you have any favorite stories on Wattpad?Kill My Boyfriend by GiovannieStorm is one that I really enjoy The Death is my BFF series is pretty good too Death is My BFF is one of the first books I ever read on Wattpad, in its early stage. Did you know the author is trying to get it to be a movie as well I think? She is? Well kudos to her. I think I read the first two books but I lost track somehow. Well yes, she's got a lot going on aha. So, do you have a favorite book outside of Wattpad? The hush hush series [sic]And the thirst series [sic]What are those about? I haven't heard of them. hush hush [sic] is about fallen angels. It's like the Bella and Edward story except Edward is a fallen angel rather than a vampire. and thirst is about a badass female vampire Wow, sounds interesting. I take it you like vampire stories? Somewhat. But I'm more attracted to supernatural theme stories (aside from werewolves). Which is probably why I don't like reading boy-girl teen fiction stories set in the normal world. I would rather read boy-girl supernatural stories and boy-boy teen fiction Hahaha! You don't like werewolf stories?NoWhy not? I don't know. I'm [not] into that whole alpha, pack, mate, thingOh I see. It just simply doesn't toot your horn. Well I can understand that. How do you go about editing your work? Everyone works differently. I don't, actually haha. I'm too lazy Okay alright! Ahaha! Well we're almost done with the interview here, just a few questions left. What would you do if you found out someone was stealing your work? I'd be livid Understandably. Would you take any actions? To be honest, I wouldn't know exactly what to do. I'd probably report the story and tell the "author" that I'm not pleased with his/her actions in hopes that he or she will apologize and take the story down. Hmm. You could probably even contact someone above their head too. What do you mean? Someone of higher authority, is what I mean hahaha. Oh okay I gotcha Right, so are there any "unpopular" or lesser known writers on Wattpad that you would recommend? They don't have to be of the boyxboy genre.Ruleone Chloecomplains Telluric sadeyes-And what type of things to these people write? Ruleone has a really good book called "when and how" that I really like. It's about a guy and a girl who have abilities (the boy knows when someone will die and the girl knows how someone will die) so they combine their abilities to help save people Chloecomplains has a book called Haunt You and it's been a really long time since I've read it, but it's really good. It's like paranormal, mystery with lots of humor, so it's not too daunting Telluric actually changed her name to bluriver and she has a book named And Then He Fell and it's actually pretty popular. I like the way she words things and the way the main character talks about the girl he's in love with Sadeyes- is one my friends on here and she writes boyxboys as well. One of her more popular ones is called How to be a girl I'm gonna add a few more now that I'm thinking about it. Rotxinxpieces writes boyxboys as well but they're all of different genres. She has a series that is teen fiction, one that is (I'm not sure the genre) but it's about the underworld and hades and Greek mythology and all that stuff. She has vampire books and werewolf books as well. She's a really talented writer and I'm amazed at the fact that she can write so many different genres so well. And there's northbynorth. All of her books are pretty much good. They're funny and they're usually of the teen fiction variety. One that I found myself really enjoying was Saving Elliot. It was and still is one of my favorites. Yes, Rotxinxpieces is a great writer. I'm amazed at her ability to write more than one type of genre, and so well, too. I haven't heard of the others though. I'll see if I like any of their books.Well ShadieTree, that was my last question for you!Awesome! I'm sorry I took so long to answer sometimes

It's all good Shadie, it's all good.
