BY THE TIME the group had made it to Alexandria, as Aaron finally informed them after reuniting with his boyfriend, Eric. The strong gates before them rattled open and Taylor was introduced with the buzzing of people. The walls seemed to separate them from the walkers on the outside, but people trudged as if they were really living — hell, she thought it was funny that this place was here all along while her family and her were busy trying to defend themselves from hundreds of evil monsters covered in their blood.
But these people seemed. . . peaceful. As if they hadn't gone through years of pain and survival's guilt — no, these people seemed as though they had been here since The Fall had started. Compared to how chaotic Woodbury had been, she didn't expect to see something like this anymore, to see somewhere that was so alive that people walked with genuine smiles on their faces like the world was all okay.
And Rick's group was anything but.
Despite the difference, Taylor felt her heart burst at the sound of children chattering and laughing and chasing each other across the streets, the houses lined up that were owned by people, and the couples that walked around, hands intact and smiles on their faces. Some people stopped by and smiled at them, she only gave them a blank look — this was all new to her, she was shoved back into the world that reminded her of Shane. Of the man who hurt her.
