Chapter Eight:
Decks Dark

I wish I would've met you
Now it's a little late
What you could've taught me
I could've saved some face
They think that your early ending was all wrong
For the most part, they're right
But look how they all got strong

That's why I say,

"Hey man, nice shot"
"A good shot, man"
That's why I say, "Hey man, nice shot"
"A good shot, man"

A man
Has gone
Hey, man
Have fun

Oh, nice shot, man
Now that the smoke's gone
And the air is all clear
Those who were right there
Got a new kind of fear
You'd fight and you were right
But they were just too strong
They'd stick it in your face
And let you smell what they consider wrong

That's why I say,

"Hey man, nice shot"
"A good shot, man"
That's why I say, "Hey man, nice shot"
"What a good shot, man"

"What happened?" a cold female voice came stifled from the other line.

Ethan turned away from prying eyes and muttered into the receiver.

"I had him, alright - I don't know why he's not answering my calls,"

There was a silence that made him uneasy before the person answered.

"I told you to get him away from the people who love him, and you have so far not succeeded in doing so, the easiest of them being Renegade, and from what I can tell, you've turned this into a catastrophe,"

Ethan sighed and glanced through the pane of glass at the deserted bus station, picking at the transparent "Taxi Cab For Hire" sticker with his fingernail.

"I saved his boy like you asked me to, I helped him get rid of the problem, I don't know what you thought was going to happen here, but he's not an idiot,"

"Don't be foolish!" She cut in

"He's my son, I know he isn't,"

"Listen, lady, you're paying me a good amount of money here, and I'm grateful for it, but Cowboy and his people aren't easy to separate, especially the wife," he says

More silence.

"She is a vile woman" she seethed on the other end

"Yeah, she seems alright to me,"

"Shut up!"

Ethan bit his lip and adjusted his head.

"Of all the selfish, harlot women in the world my son had to choose the worst of them, you don't know her like I do, and now that she's carrying another grandchild of mine, I have to do something about her,"

Ethan breathed out and tilted his face closer to his phone.

"Do something, like what? You know Cowboy would only let her go if she asked him to, if you tried to get rid of her he would be even worse,"

"I will not go the rest of my life not knowing my Grandchildren!" She spat

"Then maybe you should apologize to your son, lady,"
