Watching 9-1-1 clips

Chapter 4

"The next video is called in my blood - Evan '"Buck" Buckley and include some on bucks injuries and there are happy moments in this video" the voice says which has people preparing to see Buck in pain which is a horrible thing but glad there are happy moments in this video. "Buck you sure you're still ok?" Chris asks as bucks nods his head with a big smile for the little Diaz before he feels a pat around on his waist which makes him look up at Eddie "do you want to carry on sitting like this or be somewhere else for the video" he says but buck shakes his head quickly and latches onto eddies side in answer. Bobby smiling whispers to Athena "they will definitely have paperwork to sign when we get back" who laughs quietly nodding. Hen and Chim have their own whispers "I'm definitely winning the bet on them" hen says with pride as Chim shakes his head in mock disappointment.

[it starts with a dark screen with the sound of water]
At the sound of rushing water both buck and Chris tense along with everyone else in the room tempering their own experiences that day. Eddie tightens his hold on his son and best friend remembering how he felt when he realised they were in the tsunami and the trauma it caused them both.
[it shows Buck under the water swimming around lost with a voiceover of his voice saying "I love this job because I get to be the tough guy but I also get to help people" as it shows Buck leaning on the locker looking fed up.]
Bobby remembering those words that Buck said to him smiles a little because of the big heart his kid has. Looks at Buck are thrown around now understanding just why Buck was fighting so hard to get back to the 118 after the blood clots.
[it shows Buck sitting in the ambulance with an old man as he has his hand on his back looking at him. Then to a women saying to Buck "he wanted to live and you failed him"]
"You know that not true buckaroo. We were there and there was nothing you could do he didn't want the help" hen says wanting Buck to understand that. Buck nods his head "I know that now" he says accepting that not everyone can be saved if they don't want it.
[it then shows Buck in a chair looking up with a cop by the doors as a voiceover of Buck says "they wanted machines, people who could flip a switch in their head and turn off every natural human instinctive emotion in their body and I cannot do that. I don't want to do that" as it says Buck sitting at a table looking blank to Buck sitting across from Maddie to Buck in uniform looking at something to Buck holding Chris's face away from bodies floating in the sea during the tsunami to bucks face after losing his first person on the job to Buck talking to Bobby and then Taylor holding her drink up in invitation as Buck looks to her]
At the tsunami bit the parents quickly try to cover the kids eyes so they don't see that, even as they look on in pity and horror at the scene through bucks eyes. "I'm not surprised you couldn't do that. Your emotions are what makes you a great firefighter, they make you stronger" Karen says to Buck who blushes at the compliment but looks at her with gratitude. Micheal speaks up to say "no one wants to be saved by a machine" which everyone nods along to because when people need to be saved they should be given comfort and a sense of safety and warmth instead of coldness and a uncaring nature.
[Buck and Taylor in the bathroom with Buck lifting Taylor to Buck and the therapist on the sofa with her on top of him to Buck looking to the side carefree]
Again parents keep the children's eyes away from the screen as Buck's whole face turns red and he hides his face in Eddies neck from embarrassment. The adults look at the screen in disgust at seeing their son or brother in those positions while Eddie looks at the screen with eyes that could kill in obvious anger and jealousy even if he is trying to hide it.
[then to Buck and Abby hugging in her apartment and then Buck and Abby kissing at the airport as Buck says "this in my head keeps saying move on Buck" as it shows Abby entering the airport leaving Buck behind "she's never gonna come back"]
There mixed feelings throughout the room at seeing Abby because of the way she left Buck and lead him on for so many months. Buck looks at the screen with sadness but with more understanding then everyone else on why she left.
[then to Eddie saying "what's your problem man" as it shows Buck in the workout bit of the station to buck saying "what do we need him for?" As it shows Buck looking at Eddie on his first day]
Buck looks down feeling embarrassed about how he reacted to Eddie before the call with the bomb in the man's leg. "I'm sorry" Buck whispers in a way only Eddie can hear. Eddie in response squeezes Buck to his side knowing that it didn't really mean anything.
["what's your problem man" Eddie says to Buck who looks to his. As Bobby says "the guys got a sliver star it's not like he's wet behind the ears" as it shows the first call that Eddie went on with a close up of bucks face. Buck stands up saying "alright you"  before it shows everyone in the station going to Eddie as Buck looks behind unhappy with Eddie voice overlapping saying "no need to be threatened by me we are on the same team" in response Buck says "why would I be threatened by you" . It then shows Buck in the fire ambulance holding a newborn baby as he says "no is that the mother no screw her" when the doors are opened by Athena with the girl behind her in her fathers arms]
Buck looks down in shame but feels a hand on his and looks up to see Athena giving him a warm smile "you were panicked we understand". Buck slowly nods his head still feeling embarrassed so Carla gives him a pat on the shoulder in encouragement.
[Athena then says "you're gonna get someone killed as Buck looks to Bobby. Chims voice comes on saying to Bobby "you know your not helping him by going easy on him" as it shows Buck so Bobby says back "he just needs a little direction"]
"Thank you Bobby" Buck says with genuineness because Bobby didn't give up on him. Bobby just smiles "don't need to thank me Buck"]
[it shows Buck with an ax getting ready to hit something so Bobby stops him before it goes back to chim saying "I will remind you of that after he gets you killed"]
Hurt washes over Buck's face that he unsuccessfully tries to cover by the way Chim winces in regret and how Eddie and Chris protectively grip onto Buck. Bobby gets closer so that Buck can see him as well as holding the hand he can get to, to being comfort.
[it then shows Bobby telling Buck "your fired" as Buck runs to Bobby half undressed saying "don't do this to me, I don't have anything else"]
"You do" Maddie and Eddie say at the same time wanting Buck to know he's not alone no matter what because he has them and the rest of the 118 family.
[then to Buck helping Athena to stop a criminal getting away by spraying him with water as bobbys voice comes on "Athena grant called to tell me how much of an asset you were. Told her she was half right" as it shows Athena looking at Buck and then to show a different short of Buck getting blood taken saluting]
Bobby and Athena look at the screen in pride for the man who is like their son. Carla smiles while whispering "that's my boy". Denny, Chris and Harry look at the screen with awestruck looks at seeing how Buck stopped the criminal.
[then to chim's voice saying "alright buckaroo if you were not a member of the LAFD what would happen be doing" as hen says in response "he would be a golden retriever" as clips of Buck going going a cliff, climbing out of a lift soaking to meet hen, Buck running out of the firetruck and then Buck laughing are shown]
Smiles are appearing around the room at the clips knowing that hens words could not be truer. Nobody in the room can imagine Buck as anything else as a firefighter because that is where Buck belongs and is right to him.
[it then shows Buck saying "I think I'm not fired" before switching to Buck in the engine saying "I know I'm gonna cry. Those soldier reunion videos on YouTube always get me" as it shows the reunion and Buck wiping tears from his eyes. It then shows a hospital with Buck on a phone as Athena appears from behind saying "you know detective marks didn't believe me. He said no one could be that stupid" as it shows Buck panicking running up stairs before it shows Bobby putting his hands in bucks shoulders to stop him]
Buck starts to feel tears build up remembering exactly what time the clips were from. Maddie,Chim and Buck start to prepare themselves in case more clips from when Buck took Maddie and hurt chimney come up.
["I was trying to help" Buck says it then goes back to the hospital as Athena continues saying "I said you don't know Buck"]
"Sorry about all of that especially to you Chim for unlocking your phone" Buck says sheepishly but Chim shakes his head "it's fine I understand why you did it". Athena shakes her head but a loving smile is on her face.
[it shows buck and Eddie sitting together as Buck says "your arresting me" to athana with Bobby standing behind her. In response Athena says "not yet but the nights still young" before it shows Buck and Athena walking together and then them looking to each other. Then to a snowy landscape]
At the landscape shown Buck whispers to Eddie in a way no one else can hear who nods in response and reluctantly lets his arms fall from around Buck. Buck once untangled from Eddie stand ups bringing Chris with him to sit next to Maddie who is on the left of his side by Athena and chim being Chris with him. Once room is made for him he sits as close to Maddie as possible so that he can hug her while Chris sits between them. Athena who is behind them next to Bobby puts her hand on Maddie's shoulder in comfort remembering the time their found her in that landscape.
[then back to Buck sitting next to Eddie looking at Bobby who has hand out indicating Buck to go. The ladder truck exploding is shown as well as Buck being pinned by the truck on his leg]
Shudders and tears are heard and seen throughout the room as the haunting clips are shown. Maddie holds her brother tighter in the hug they are sharing but the kids in the room including Chris look down quickly to avoid seeing that. Hen, Chim and Eddie shares heartbroken expressions as the image haunts them because of how they couldn't help buck for so long so in response the shift a bit closer to Buck so they can still see him and ease their minds that he is there. Bobby and Athena hold Buck by the shoulder tighter. Bobby slowly presses a kiss to bucks hair as tear start to appear from the guilt and pain of seeing that. "I'm so sorry it was my fault" Bobby says into bucks hair but Buck hearing that reaches to grip Bobbys hand "no it wasn't. You didn't know that would happen and anyway I'm ok now" buck says truthfully with a smile because he has worked through that so Bobby shouldn't feel any guilt for that because it wasn't his fault and he helped him in the end.
[bucks voice says "so you want me to quit my job that's what your asking me to do" as it shows bucks leg in a cast after the bombing and Ali answers Buck by saying "no I would never ask you to do that". It goes back to Buck in the hospital saying "do you if I could ever work again". Then Maddie's voice is heard saying "we are talking about the rest of your life" and buck raise his voice to say "no being a firefighter is my life". It then shows Buck saying to Bobby "I can't come back to work". It switches to Buck in bed under the covers as eddie shouts "your life isn't over just because your not a firefighter" as Eddie pulls the covers off Buck and then Buck walking down the stairs saying "says the firefighter"]
Looking at all the clips together every one really starts to see and understand just how much the job means to Buck and understand why he filed the lawsuit a bit more.
[hens voice comes on the screen saying "we all had lives, jobs before we entered the department" as it shows Buck in the locker room with hen, then him riding the engine and then him carrying a child. Bucks voice is heard saying "it is the only thing I have ever done that was important and that mattered"as it shows Buck rescuing Taylor Kelly, then a destroyed building and to a couple reaching out to Buck. Hen finishes talking saying "what does Buck have?"]
Buck flinches in the hug Maddie has him in as all of his own doubts and insecurities circle around his head. Hen flinches knowing she said the words in the wrong way as Buck has them but the words come across differently. So hen stands up from her seat so that she can sit directly in front of Buck which makes him lift his head out of Maddie's shoulder. "I never meant for the words to sound like that Buck of course you have us and always will. Please tell me you understand that" hen says desperately. Buck sees how desperate and guilty hen feels in her voice and eyes so he nods his head and whispers "yes I do". He feels hands on his shoulders and backs in comfort which he greedily takes.
[it then shows everyone who matters in bucks life celebrating after bucks first clean bill of health saying "surprise" which shocks Buck in a good way]
Smiles are thrown around the room remembering the fun before the embolism
[then hug of relief is shown. It shows Bobby, chim, buck and Eddie standing together. Buck, Bobby and hen are showing laughing at a screen as hen tries to say "I'm not laughing. I'm not"]
Buck, Bobby and hen try to hold in their giggles remembering what was so funny.
[then to Buck coming down the stairs smiling at Athena who smiles back. Then Bobby helping Buck with his suit]
Smiles widen at the clips seen because of the family feel it portrays.
[then Buck and hen playfully fighting over a video game controller]
Both look over at each other with smiles on their faces.
[Maddie's voice appears to say "you will still be buck and we will all love you" as it shows buck and Eddie hugging after eddies probationary year ends to buck and Eddie hugging at bucks celebration]
Buck blushes as he looks to Eddie and already finds him staring at him with a large, almost smug smile at the two interactions seen on screen between him and Eddie.
[it then shows the fire engine moving as Eddie holds him phone to Buck who says "so adorable. I love kids". It then shows Eddie hugging Chris as Buck looks at them]
Seeing that small clip of Eddie and Chris sends warmth through everyone's hearts. Eddie looks over to his son who is still wrapped around Buck lovingly.
[it shows Buck rescuing a kid as he says hi with his hands out. It then shows Buck and Chris playing games on the pier high-fiving. Then Buck wearing a Santa just going towards a little girl with a teddy. To Eddie lifting Chris into his arms with Buck close by and to Buck on a sofa throwing his head back "whoa!" And laughing with Maddie. Then Buck and Eddie carrying a Christmas tree to chim saying "the baby Jesus broke his fall" and Buck says "it's a Christmas miracle". Then hen and Buck looking at each other to Bobby's voice saying "Buck has us"]
"Forever" Bobby says with confidence and happiness which has everyone else nodding their heads in agreement. Feelings of content and warmth wash over Buck from Bobby's words and the agreements.
[then Buck putting his hand on Eddies shoulder with Bobby standing beside him and then the family dinners in the 118 station. It shows Buck sounding tearfully when saying to Bobby  "out there in the world helping people that is where I belong, that is where I have spent five months fighting to get back to"  as it shows Buck jumping off a firetruck to save people during the tsunami]
Regret and guilt was over Bobby as he is reminded of how ready Buck was to go back to work and knowing he never should have stopped him because of his own fears.
[then Bobby shouting "I told you to leave Buck now" when the plane crashed into the sea and Buck disobeyed orders so he reply's with "I know I'm a terrible listener"]
"That we know" chim says with a small laugh remembering the many times Buck did the opposite of what he was supposed to. Buck smirks a little bit in response "I can't help it" which causes laughs to echo around the room.
[Buck says "hell screw this" to Bobby and then it goes to Buck breaking down a wall. It shows Buck saying "I can make that jump, I can help Eddie". It shows Buck ruining to hug Maddie he says "you did do good" and then transitions to Buck telling a women he saves in tsunami "you did so good"]
Maddie lets out the sob at both of those scenes because of the emotional meaning behind when Buck said it to her and then the trauma of the tsunami where he repeats the words to help someone else. Buck hearing the sob tightens his hold around the her shoulders.
[a bird view perspective of the tsunami is shown. It then shows the plane crash feeling Bobby something before he ducks down and something flies over his head out the plane. Buck says "this guy may not have lived with much dignity but maybe he can still die with some" as they take someone out and after Chim tells Buck he did a good job]
"You really did that day Buck" Chim says as everyone nods in approval at how caring Buck is even when others wouldn't be.
[Buck and Eddie going to Chim and Bobby as Buck says "heard over the radio you needed some equipment and available hand down here" as it shows everyone saving hen. And then the 118 outside the hospital as Eddie is heard saying "that was amazing" and Buck saying "well that was a miracle as they comfort hen whose legs give out. Buck smiles to Eddie. It shows Buck hugging Chris on the firetruck in the tsunami]
Buck moves away from Maddie slowly to hug Chris in a almost replica of the one shown which causes a few tears in everyone's eyes but especially in eddies at seeing his son and the man he loves hold each other so tightly.
[a black screen in sown with Bobbys voice saying "take a seat Evan" as it shows Bobby pulling out a chair and everyone laughing as Buck sits down "uh Buck. Everyone just calls me Buck" as Bobby replies back "well welcome to the 118 Buck" with a pat on his shoulder as Buck says thank you with a sigh. The video ends]
Sighs are heard around the room because of the mixed feelings that the video brought them. The voice appears all throughout the room again to tell the occupants "you will watch one more video and then it will be time for food and rest for tomorrows videos" with a finality they can't argue you with. Eddie wanting to have Buck and Chris by his side again looks over to Buck who feels his gaze and looks over to and as always they know what each other are saying without talking so, Buck gets up after telling Maddie where he is going with Christopher to sit by eddies side. Eddie with a smile put his arms back around Buck to push him closer to his side as he smiles as his son who smiles back content to be in bucks arms. Everyone looks to the screen to wait and hear what video the voice has decided they will watch.
