Energy means having the strength and vitality required for physical or mental activity (Oxford Dictionary). Energy is needed to take action on anything. Our minds and bodies were designed to be active, but also to have periods of rest. People who aren't very active are more likely to develop dementia, obesity, and other diseases. But people who don't get adequate rest are also at risk for becoming more forgetful, developing more physical aches and pains, and having lower immunity. Healthy living is about finding a healthy balance.

In general, I feel healthier now than I did ten years ago. I believe this is because I get more exercise, receive regular chiropractic care, and engage in other forms of self-care. But when I am stressed, I feel emotionally and physically exhausted and develop neck pain.

It is helpful to recognize which things drain my energy and which things give me energy. For example, I don't like prolonged periods of loud noise or being overwhelmed with too many different demands at once. Spending time with other people usually gives me joy, but I also need some quiet time by myself. I recharge my batteries by practicing yoga, going for walks outside, listening to music, playing piano, journaling and praying.
